Saltaire is our March Artist of the Month. He's built up an impressive gallery of images, primarily landscapes, portraits and space/military scenes. Vue is his main tool of choice although Daz Studio is also in the mix. We love his bold use of color and excellent rendering skills.

Saltaire has a beautiful gallery with many beautiful 3D scenes. Check out our short interview with Saltaire along with a video gallery which features 10 items from his extensive Renderosity gallery.

Interview with Saltaire

Renderosity: Tell us about your background; how did you become a digital artist?

Saltaire: The digital art started as an escape from the day job - in the IT industry - so it was a chance to use the PC for something more interesting than just for work.

What attracted you to Renderosity and why do you post your work here?

Saltaire: Having been Sci Fi and Fantasy literature fan for years it gives me the chance to translate some of those imaginary worlds into "realistic" images. Having then discovered Renderosity I found there was a whole community doing the same - and sharing their work and experience, which prompted me to start posting.

Vue is your main tool of choice what is it about Vue that appeals to you so much?

Saltaire: Vue was the first 3Ddigital art tool I started working with - so much of my work is still produced in this, as I still know this best. I like the ability to create vast landscapes and vistas. And in the more intimate close up work I still find the control of positioning objects and light sources for the desired effect a bit more intuitive than other tools.

My favorite of your recent works is "Artefact" (see image above). How did the creation of this great surrealist piece come about?

The more surrealist of my postings such as "Artefact" or "Greeting A New Day" are my attempts to emulate some of the cover art of Sci Fi and Fantasy novels - something fairly simple and straightforward that grabs the attention. And a tip for beginners with Vue - play around with the atmosphere and lighting options - there are so great effects you can achieve.

Any last comments before we close?

Saltaire: Finally - thanks to all those in the Renderosity community who post some many freebies - always appreciated and I've used many of them in my renders. Regards Saltaire
