The Artist of the Month for February 2020 is
Norbeca
We congratulate Norbeca for being voted AOM for February. She lives and works in Madrid, Spain, and is a Renderosity member since 2012. Her work is dynamic and often features a strong female in a variety of roles. Norbeca uses Cinema 4D primarily for her work. That would explain how beautiful her renders are.
Norbeca was kind enought to answer a few questions about her background and working methods. We've chosen 8 works from her gallery to feature in the Artist of the Month video (see above)
Interview with Norbeca
Renderosity: Tells us about yourself. Who is Norbeca?
Norbeca: m a person who has always liked to draw. Unfortunately, my work does not leave me much time for my hobby, so it takes a long time between one drawing and another. I draw things as they come to mind, I don't prepare them. Many go to the trash. I am self-taught, I have not had an artistic background.
How long have you been creating artworks? How did you get started?
I have drawn all my life, however I discovered 3D programs in 2012 and since then I draw with the mouse instead of pencil. I started using Cinema4D because it seemed easy to use and I have been moving forward little by little. Later I started practicing with Photoshop to give the final touch. I still have a lot to learn.
You have such a great talent for creating strong often beautiful women. Why is this subject so important to you?
I've always liked comics and women have always been present in the stories I read, I guess I tried to reproduce those stories in my drawings. Anyway I do not have a special theme. I like science fiction, fantasy, history. Any topic is good to capture an idea.
One work that is a "most viewed" is Et lux in tenebris lucet. How did you create this scene?
Well, it's one of my first images so it's very simple. I put the model in the center to capture all the attention and further enhanced the scene by placing a volumetric light behind so that it projected the rays towards the viewer and highlighted the figure of the girl. There are no more light sources. Then I applied depth of field.
How has Renderosity been a help to you as an artist.
Renderosity was the first place where I published my drawings. The comments and appreciation that people have for my works has been very important during these years to improve. I have learned a lot from other artists who publish their works here and I hope that many others learn from mine.
I have one last question. I believe you grew up in Madrid, right? How does having a Spanish perspective on life make a difference in your work?
Yes, I grew up and live in Madrid. Perhaps it has influenced me in the uses of light. Spain is a country of light. I love to practice with the light, both day and night and that is seen in most of my drawings or at least it is what I try to show. Our history has given us extraordinary teachers to learn from them.
