Poser offers users the ability to use interactive 3D figure design to create art, illustration, animation, comics, web, print, education, medical, games, story boarding, and more. Using the program, creators can bring their stories, dreams and fantasies to life. From historic to contemporary, sci-fi to fantasy, Poser is the 3D graphics software tool used by professionals and hobbyists alike.
That's why we want to take a closer look at some of the creators who leverage the power of Poser to create.
Steve Eggart started using Poser in 1999 after the release of Poser 4.
Over the years, he has developed a loyal following on Renderosity under the moniker, [Eekdog](https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/?uid=451384).
The one thing that has kept him creating with Poser for two decades has been the FireFly render engine.
Introduced with Poser 5 in 2003, the FireFly render engine is a Reyes-based render engine, which supports nodes for the creation of complex materials.
Reyes rendering was the gold-standard for rendering photo-realistic images. It was developed in the mid-1980s by Lucasfilm's Computer Graphics Research Group (now Pixar) and was first used for the Genesis effect sequence in the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Reyes rendering allows for fast high-quality rendering of complex images. The engine has been and is still used in many 3D programs, like Poser, RenderMan for Maya and Bakery Relight.
Poser 11.2 supports both FireFly rendering and the SuperFly cycles engine.
How long have you been using Poser and why did you start using the program?
I have been using Poser since 2006, I started my work in Bryce then a friend gave me a copy of Poser 4 in 1999. Now I work with Poser 9.
I enjoy using Poser cause of the vast awesome work I've seen by other artists, and it was fairly easy to work with at the start. But it took years to get work I was happy with.
What inspires your creations?
Lots of things inspire my work, the creativity of others, music, things in everyday life and most of all the great products some vendors who shared them with me and excellent products available here, not to mention also great freebies pages. For all this I for one will be a lifer at Renderosity and this site is my main inspiration.
What's your favorite feature in Poser?
I would say, since I still use Poser 9, the Firefly rendering really gives me some high-quality renders.
How do you get the quality you get from Firefly?
In Firefly, under render settings with my 64-bit system, I turn up the max bucket size from factory 32 to 36. I then change my render dimension size to 6,000 X ? dpi on it format size, either landscape or portrait, then I change resolution from factory 72 to 82.
Not all render in this size but most do, some can go even lager but the size limit for posts at Renderosity is 6,000 dpi I belive so I use that as a standard.
Not many ask me or mention about Firefly render problems, if they have any they might have a 32 bit system and will have some problems like I used to encounter.
