Interview with iborg64
iborg64: Seeing everyone's work on Renderosity has always provided me with lots of ideas for my own renders and plenty of feedback on how to improve things
You are so skilled in creating digital 3D environments: why did you choose VUE and how did you teach yourself to use it so well?
iborg64: I started with vue d'esprit that was a free copy on the front of a pc magazine.I played around with that for quite a while but my pc was slow and renders took all day for even simple scenes. My first full version of VUE was VUE 7 and by that time I had a better pc and I was buying stuff from cornucopia 3d. In particular, I bought a lot of ready-made scenes and started just changing things, substituting different plants and trees and looking at how the scene had been put together, plus an awful lot of trial and error. By the time I got to VUE 2014 complete with an even better pc I had a huge library of VUE assets.I'd also started saving bits to use in other projects to speed things up like creating ecosystems with all the distribution layers worked out maybe an oak forest for example which may have taken a couple of days to do but next time I could click on a terrain add my ecosystem change the oak trees for pine trees and there's a pine forest in a couple of clicks. I created some small bits of ground with paths through years ago which I still use just add one of my many ready prepared ecosystems and had of it done already.
The latest version of VUE, VUE Creator, is the one I use now and a lot of the assets I use now come from Quixel megascans and the latest version of VUE can use The PBR materials that come with the Quixel assets all of which are very high quality and work very well in VUE and with the latest VUE update, VUE will quickly add all the maps in one click from Quixel assets
iborg64: At the moment I mainly use DAZ to create and position figures. I import these figures into Cinema 4D where I set up the entire scenery. In Cinema I also do the texturing and lighting, as this program offers a lot more options to go into detail. At the beginning I tried very hard to learn to model, then I discovered the importance of textures, and meanwhile, I know that good lighting is one of the most important and difficult means that you should definitely master. In addition, I use the CrazyBump Professional program to quickly create normal maps and bump maps and RizomUV to create UV maps. Both programs are highly recommended.
What tips do you have for those who are creating with VUE?
iborg64: If anyone ever requires some help or tips on VUE I'm always willing to help if I can If they send me a message
Do you have any favorite works in your gallery?
iborg64: One of my favorite pieces in the gallery is "Growing herbs at the allotment garden". I used one of Quixel promo images as a reference, this was the first time I thought of creating parts for the scene separately and saving them almost like building blocks. So each pile of pots was saved as a single object and each potted plant and its soil the same even the table and everything on it was saved as one object. I really simplified putting the scene together.
Final thoughts on anything?
iborg64: it's an honor to be chosen as Artist of the Month. Kind regards, Iborg 64
