Reallusion’s new Auto Setup for Unity HDRP is amazing

If you are a Unity game developer using Reallusion’s Character Creator and iClone, you will be happy to see Reallusion has updated the Auto Setup tool for Unity HDRP. While the previous Auto Setup ran a series of tasks automatically when the character was imported into the engine, the new Auto Setup has a complete user interface that lets you process the characters, select the material quality and also process animations.

There are Auto Setup tools for Unity URP and Unity Standard, but right now I am focusing on HDRP, because, frankly, HDRP is way cooler than URP and Standard, produces a superior image quality, and Character Creator characters deserve to be seen in full glory in an HDRP game if you are using Unity.
Auto Setup

Using the Auto Setup is fairly easy. All you need to do is exReallusion\Import Characters command.port your character from Character Creator or iClone into your desired content folder in the Unity project. The engine will detect the new files automatically, and then you can open the Auto Setup interface via the
The Importer pane has a variety of options to set the material quality for the skin, eyes, hair, etc. Also, the left side of the importer will list all the characters you have imported into your project. After you set your material options, just click the Build Materials button. This will create all the required materials for your character, and also create a Prefab of your character, with all the materials added.
After your Prefab is created, you can drag it into the scene. You will notice the materials are very high quality. Reallusion has created their own ShaderGraph materials for skin, eyes and hair, and the quality of the materials is amazing. Also, if you selected the options to recreate hair and cloth physics, you will see that the Prefab includes hair and cloth simulation, and that the character has colliders. The colliders are actually the same colliders you can create in iClone, and this means you can create your own collision setup in iClone and have that reproduced automatically in Unity.

The Auto Setup will also process the animations. As you know, if you export your character from iClone, it will include the animation as well (as long as you exported the animation timeline from iClone). However, if you export your character from Character Creator, you can include motion files during export, so you can export many animations within the same character file. Auto Setup will process all those motions automatically.
Another nice thing is how the Auto Setup handles the semi-transparent materials. For this dress, I had setup a somewhat “see-through” effect because I wanted to simulate thin, light fabric. Auto Setup did a very good job reproducing that effect inside Unity.
If you are using Unity and Reallusion Character Creator and iClone for your projects, you must get this one now. Also, this Auto Setup works with the previous versions of the software, so if you are still using CC3 and iClone 7, this works perfectly.
