Interview with Vyktohria
What got you interested in digital art and creating 3D content?
I first became interested in the world of 3D art and content creation a little over 14 years ago. At the time, I already had a strong background in Photoshop but immediately saw the potential in the ways 3D programs could add to my art. It quickly turned into a mild obsession for me, which eventually led me to my day job working as a freelance 3D content creator and digital artist.
Which one gives you a bigger thrill? Creating 3D Content, Creating Artwork, or both?
Both for differing reasons, but with the same final result. 3D content creation satisfies the academic side of my brain with its emphasis on math and computer scripting. Digital art satisfies the creative side of my brain and allows me to express myself visually. The final result of both is a sense of "Wow! I actually made that!" as well as the satisfaction of putting something in the world that others appreciate.
Do you feel driven by your desire to create or is it something that just pops up from time to time?
I am constantly driven by a desire to create. I think it started at a very young age with me doing crafts for school and Girl Scouts, and it simply developed over time. I'm very grateful to be in a career that allows me the freedom to constantly express my creative energy.
When did you start to realize that you had artistic/creative ability?
Very late in life, actually. My sister was always considered "the artist" in the family, and I was always considered "the academic". Even though I always loved to express myself creatively, it was never a path I really considered following. It wasn't until I was in my late 30s that I took the chance and started really exploring that side of m
What is in your digital toolbox? What applications do you rely on for artwork and/or 3D content creation? Especially your “can’t live without” software apps.
My "can't live without" software would include Photoshop and Daz Studio (for obvious reasons), but I'd also include ZBrush, Silo, FilterForge, Substance Painter, and Corel Painter in that list as well.
Digital Artists and Content creators form a wide spectrum. Are you formally educated, self-taught, or both in digital asset creation?
Completely 100% self-taught in both 3D content creation and digital art. I still consider myself to be a student of both, as my learning process continues to this day. Both are simply passions of mine, and because I love both so much, it's easy to consume new information on a steady basis.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
When I was little, I wanted to be an Egyptologist and a ballerina.
Did you end up in a related profession or something totally different?
I partially achieved both. I studied dance for 17 years and have performed on TV, in movies, and in music videos. Instead of an Egyptologist, I became an anthropologist and did archaeological fieldwork in the American Southwest and anthropological work in Namibia. I've also worn many career hats, including working several years in both the entertainment and advertising industries in Los Angeles before settling down with 3D content creation and digital art.
Is there anything that you would like the Renderosity community to know about you in particular or a general statement you’d like to make about your digital work?
If there is something you love to do in this world, make time and do it. It doesn't matter if you don't have the proper schooling because you can teach yourself anything. Dedicate some time to crafting that passion, and marvelous results will follow.
