In a move that will be most welcome to Lightwave users and fans, the 3D application has been sold to a newly established company Lightwave Digital. Lightwave is the oldest 3D application still available having been released to the PC in 1994.
Development of the Lightwave application was suspended in 2020 when it was acquired by Vizrt. The new company has said they plan on starting development of a new version of Lightwave soon after the acquisition goes through in late April 2023.
On a very busy Discord channel set up by Lightwave Digital, Andrew Bishop, the head of the new development team said that "the new team – which includes other LightWave veterans like former beta co-ordinator Deuce Bennett – has been planning for 3 years – thinking about things we want to fix and things we want to add”.
