We are delighted that Rikomortis, our April Artist of the Month, has sent his response to our interview questions. He’s been a member since 2005 and has over 150 followers (me included). His work is dark and often quite funny. In addition to the interview (see below), we have 10 works from his gallery to feature in the video. Please take a moment to read the interview and visit his excellent gallery.
Note: I asked Rikomortis about the wonderful image he uses as his Renderosity avatar, here’s what he said, “My Avatar is the actor Walter Houston playing Old Scratch AKA the Devil from the movie “The Devil and Daniel Webster” 1959”
How did you become a digital artist? what’s your background?
I studied Art throughout my school years. After graduating High School, I found myself working various non-Art-related Jobs, but I did a few commercial Art projects for local businesses and residents through referrals from friends.
It was always important for me to keep in practice. When I bought my first windows PC some years later, I played around with MS paint, jumped to Corel paint and got into Photo Manipulations. I discovered some amazing Digital works during a image search that led me to Poser and Renderosity ! I started off with poser 5 around 2006, From that day on I was hooked! Poser has been My go-to software and is still my favorite for rendering Images and scene creation. For Animation I have fallen in love with iClone for its ease of use and its ability to import, rig, and export. More recently I have jumped back into Daz a bit though I need to invest more time to learn more of its features. My go to texturing Software is Blacksmith 3d…
You have a real passion for horror and the outre: what interests you in those topics?
I think what I like about The Horror Genera is that it can be so many things to so many people …It can be Shocking fierce and violent, or it can be mysterious, intriguing, sexy. The Characters can be grotesque and monstrous or appear meek and relatively normal, or Bombshell Beauty. The diverse range of Characters and topics can be almost limitless to the imagination.
Personal fav: Slave to the Power of Death how did you create this piece?
This image came about while putting together assets for a fan-made tribute music video animation for the Song “Wasted Years” by the Band Iron Maiden. Music and visual digital media make a nice combination, which I often reference in my Art. I used Rawart’s Dead Fred over at Daz and Sixus1"s Anubis clothing over in free stuff at sharecg . Rendered in Daz and post-worked in Corel Paint shop pro …The animation can be seen on my Renderosity Gallery Page.
Who are some of the artists you admire and are inspired by?
Well, that is a long list …Frank Frazzetta , Boris Vallejo, Bernie Wrightson, Todd McFarlane, Ken Kelly, Jack Kirby, Gerald Brom, and Vincent Locke. And a Shout out to all the Hard-working Vendor artists here at Rendo. A Particular fav here at Rendo is Cybertenko…A creative genius!
Any advice for the beginning digital artist?
Be bold continuously experiment, view your work from many angles and different lighting configurations, try different Textures, change your perspectives and depth of field settings, personalize your renders with your own Imagination and experiences and interests …The Possibilities are exciting and endless!
