Very pleased to announce that nun2brite was voted Artist of the Month for May. He is a very bright and talented artist who uses AI to generate remarkable scenes of great beauty and humor. It was a tight vote, but he came out on top. Congratulations, nun2brite!
In this short interview, nun2brite shares is background (lots of travel) and tips for working with AI to create scenes.
We chose 10 works from his gallery to feature in the video (see above). Our thanks to nun2brite for taking the time to talk with us. Please click the button at the bottom of the page to visit his cool gallery.
Renderosity: Tell us about yourself and your background
nun2brite: 62 years old high school graduate, a veteran from Massachusetts, stereotypical suburbanite childhood. I've lived in Europe, Canada, north south east west in us, and presently in Nevada. Worked in corporate America for a couple of decades, in medical manufacturing, and owned my own business for 12 years. Divorced, Backcountry hiking and art is what I'm all about now, no kids, just me. I have always been outside the norm in life, I'm contradictory by nature. For example my passion for high-altitude Backcountry hiking but I also enjoy tech such as computer-generated art.
What led you to create digital art?
When computers became mainstream home units I of course experimented with early art programs, it was the release of Daz Studio that was the start of my digital art journey. Until recently I hadn't done any traditional artwork for almost 20 years, for me, digital art is just another medium. A medium that was easy to fall in love with, though most people that use a computer at work daily often don't wish to be on one when not working.
Any tips for new creators using AI?
Tutorials, do them! Study successful artist prompts. Use picture resources, and try different AIs some are better in one model than another. One of the AIs I use takes up to four picks, I'll use one slot for the face I want, and two slots for the pose or seen I desire. My personal technique, generate your wanted scene, a portrait in a model that creates a "comic" or watercolor illustration with realistic "proportions" then once you have what you like then use that image as your picture resource. The painted comic is easily fixed in any art program and the AI can change this to stable diffusion or photo real models nicely. Experiment, one of my favorite images I forgot to change the prompt after I change the picture source.
I like your sense of humor, too. Not a question though. Oh, well. :-)
Sense of humor: don't be shy, put yourself out there. Your work is better than you think. Every failure is a step towards victory.
By the way, what tips might you have for those who want to get started in AI-generated art?
If you dislike your results, toss it. Maybe use that early render to fill a multi-slot image source. Make multiple generations of your target results. I've often chosen an image with a low setting over something generated on settings with previous success.
