It used to be Wallpaper was the domain of the desktop computer, then laptops, and so on. From there it spread to phones, tablets, and most likely things I don’t even know exist that use some form of wallpaper. A lot of people download and choose wallpaper with great care while others give it little thought. There are also those that never change their wallpaper or even know they can for that matter.
Wallpaper is another area that Renderosity content can excel at with its expertly made Marketplace and Freebie assets. A great thing about being a digital artist is you aren’t stuck with only wallpaper you can find. You can make your own and I’ll bet I’m far from alone in making wallpaper that suits my tastes. Nothing wrong with a little eye candy even if you are the only one that may ever see it or like it for that matter. You can also share your creations online with those that don’t have the tools, time, or desire to make their own.
When you are on your third consecutive Monday of the week, the bosses are screaming deadline and your computer is crashing your “go-to” software (because you downloaded something you shouldn’t have). Your phone somehow has malware (you swear you didn’t press that link on that strange text) you can always just step back from it all for an hour and put together a sweet wallpaper so every time you look at your screen you will remember this day and never get in this position again.
Ok… maybe that is a bit exaggerated. Why commemorate an average day right? But the reality is that stopping to make some digital art that you will enjoy when you open your phone, laptop or tablet is like stopping to smell the roses in a digital sense.
There are many different sizes when it comes to wallpaper, so you’ll have to do a little online research on your particular device. For example, an iPhone SE has 1136 X 640 resolution whereas an iPhone X has 2436 X 1125 and there is iPhone XR at 1792 X 828 and that is just three of many models for the iPhone alone not even including all the Android models.
A quick mobile wallpaper ratio guide (from thedesign.school where you can find other guides) :
- 9:16 1080 X 1920
- 9:16 140 X 2560
- 2:3 320 X 480
- 2:3 640 X 960
Positioning Renderosity assets in front of the 2D background can add startling depth to a final render. Sometimes just a placement of a few trees, plants, or other objects common to the 2D background can tie it all together.
This is not your grandmother’s wallpaper which has escaped the confines of bulky computers and threaded its way into society and our daily lives via screens. If you have to look at something several times a day then I’ll ask the same question I’ve asked before, why not your own art instead?
Do a little research on your screen sizes for the device in question as tablets have different requirements too then grab some Renderosity assets from your account or head on over to the marketplace for an inspirational asset to base your wallpaper on.
