Clarifying Some Confusion About Adobe Express

Jun 27, 2023 at 03:00 pm by warlord720

Adobe is never one to sit around waiting for something to happen as evidenced by their attempted Figma acquisition that is under federal scrutiny as of this writing. With the beta release of its AI art generator Firefly, plus the recent Photoshop beta, some users are getting confused about what Adobe Express is, after releasing its own beta version.

The main questions I get are about its relationship with Photoshop:

Is Adobe Express a watered-down version of Photoshop? Can it replace Photoshop and other questions along these lines as Adobe has so many products confusion is starting to pop up.

The first question is a resounding no.

Adobe Express is not a watered-down version of Photoshop. It is not a version of Photoshop at all. It was originally Adobe Spark way back in 2015, slowly evolving to the version it is today.

The second question is also a resounding no. Confusion reigns from there also being a Photoshop Express which is a less than robust version of Photoshop. This has nothing to do with Adobe Express.

What exactly is Adobe Express?

It is a content creation tool for anyone savvy enough to competently use a personal computer or device app to create “standout social graphics, flyers, logos, and more with Adobe Express. Available on web and mobile”.

I tested the web version over at express.adobe.com and found a clean, easy-to-understand interface packed with a lot of stuff and I mean stuff. Tools are just one part of it all. There are templates for just about everything and stock photos from Adobe Stock with a paid tier that accesses the entire royalty-free photo collection.

There are a lot of “quick actions” as Adobe calls them like Resize Image, Trim Video, Remove Background, Resize Video, and many more. Take a look at the image below to see what is available.

Project tools include Logo, Flyer, Poster, Instagram Post, Instagram Story, Facebook Post, YouTube Thumbnail, Collage, Invitation, Album Cover, and Book Cover. These are quick-start, template-driven project tools that can quickly turn out a social media post or story.

It’s apparently not easy being an influencer in a fast-paced, connected world. Lots of competition for viewers with algorithms that require an almost constant publishing schedule to try and stay above the masses.

In today’s publish-or-perish world, these tools could shave off minutes if not hours of work. Might even stave off the dreaded burn-out that constant social media postings can foster.

Simply put, Adobe Express and Photoshop are two separate apps that have little to do with each other in terms of features and tools.

For Adobe Express there is a free plan and a paid plan plus those with Creative Cloud All Apps plan get free access.

  • More than enough Adobe Fonts to get your message out.
  • A limited collection of royalty-free Adobe Stock-free collection photos.
