Interview with September 2023 Artist of the Month - CassandraNorth

Sep 11, 2023 at 03:30 pm by gToon

CassandraNorth was voted Artist of the Month for September by Renderosity members. She joined Renderosity in 2015. Her gallery is full of wonderful Poser scenes and characters (primarily). Her focus is on Portrait and atmosphere/Mood scene creation. With over 1700 likes for her work, CassandraNorth is quite popular.

She lives in Norway and has her own personal website at cassandranorth.com. She spoke with us about her background and working methods. We also asked about her computer set up. Check the gallery (see above) for 10 of her gallery creations.

Tell us about yourself and your background as a digital artist

I am living in beautiful Norway with my husband and our two dogs, I am a tester here on Renderosity and my day job is Claims Advisor. As a child, I used to draw a lot but as I grew older, other things took over. It was Dragonluna1 here on Renderosity that got me hooked on digital art back in 2015 and I started out in Daz 3. It was a very steep learning curve, but I had fun while learning.

Why did you choose Poser as your digital tool?
As I got more experienced, I also got more frustrated with Daz 3; it was unstable and kept crashing. I came across Poser – and that was it! It was stable, easy to use, had the autosave function and I got results I couldn’t get in Daz. And Poser had the dynamic cloth room; something I have loved from day one. I use dynamics at any given chance!

What are some of your favorite works in your gallery?
Oh, that is hard! But I think Spicy, White Christmas, Out of the Dark, Lexi in the Garden Nook. Daz images would be Bold Sense – Kassandra, The Gazebo, Julia Fludity, FWArt Destinee, Emrys Katya and Mousso Reese.

"If you are a Poser user, do NOT fear the dynamic cloth room. Once you get the hang of it, you will realize that it is easy to use."

Do you have a specific workflow? If so, what is it?
When inspiration hits, I get an overall idea of what I want to achieve. If I am not at the computer, I write it down. I normally start with a character, hair, jewelry, clothes, and footwear. Then I add things to the scene and move everything around. Then test renders are being made to make sure everything is where I want it to be and how I want it. Once I am satisfied, I will make the final render.

I love seeing how a character comes to life regardless of whether it is a scene or a portrait, and realism is so important to me and something I strive to achieve.

What is your current computer setup?
Laptop: Running Windows 11 Home 64 bit on HP Omen, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H, NVidia GeForce RTX 3070, 16GB RAM

Any advice for those young artists just starting out?
Don’t be afraid, throw yourself into it, and remember to have fun! If you are a Poser user, do NOT fear the dynamic cloth room. Once you get the hang of it, you will realize that it is easy to use. And always remember; the majority of members here on Renderosity are very friendly and helpful. Just reach out in the forums, and you will see :)
