Words and Art from Renderosity's February 2025 Artist of the Month: jclP

Feb 21, 2025 at 01:10 pm by PJeditor

Renderosity’s Artist of the Month (AOM) for February 2025, is jclP, also known as J. C. Piquet, the first monthly AOM chosen by the entire community this year. He was born in 1946 in Anderlecht Brussels, one of 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region, Belgium, and lives in retirement in Elewijt, just 1 km from the castle of painter Peter Paul Rubens.

He loves the sea, windsurfing and playing a lot of tennis…pretty good for a retiree.

“And today with the experience acquired in art, I am rediscovering myself! Sitting in front of my computer screen, I draw with millions of polygons and get intoxicated by this new art of modern times that is 3D drawing and back to 2D digital,” he said.

He states that his love of art and evolution is unlimited.

JclP studied painting techniques for 6 years at Etterbeek & Rhok, Ixelles (Belgium) with Jacques Muler, who was his drawing and painting teacher.  “I got into oil and watercolor painting and did some group exhibitions,” he said.

He joined Renderosity in 2000 and was, quite obviously, an accomplished painter on canvas before that.

During a graphic design fair in Brussels, he was put in contact with the Wacom company, which began his interest in digital art. Painter was his first painting software and continues to be a favorite now.

We asked jclP a few questions to get to know him better.

What were the first programs and tools you used to create your digital art.

Corel Draw and Photoshop after buying a Wacom Intuos tablet. Then came Painter v1.1 for which I did demos for Wacom at trade shows. Next came Pose – Infinty view, and then Rebel and Photoshop.

How Would you describe your style?

After six years at the Academies of Fine Arts in Brussels, at the beginning it was quite figurative, fantasy and now more impressionistic.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Magazines, internet and imagination.

Which is the most important tool you use for your work now?

Wacom, Rebel and Painter. The Real rendering and painting effects as well as digital touch sensitivity like matter to oil.

How has your work evolved over the years? Where do you think it’s going?

3D in infinite view and pose for character and landscape visualization. I go more and more toward impressionism and to detail it more directly and spontaneously.

I believe that this comes from having control over the tools and  software.

If you could dine with any artist, living or dead, who would it be?

Toulouse Lautrec, Degas, Monet and B. Morisot. Deep down they are all top.

What first interested you in art?

My mother was very artistic in fashion.

What ideas do you have for future projects?

I want to continue to focus on music and instruments. And a triptych of ballerinas in suspension.

Is there any message you have for the community?

I would like to say thank you for voting and for choosing me Artist of the Month. I am grateful.
