Several years ago when I had a cubicle at Electronic Arts the wall
behind me was covered with prints. My own piece "The Spring" was
centered, but there was "Gargoyles" by Michael Parkes, "Pygmalion
and Galatea" by Gerome, a transformation by Leo and Diane Dillon, a
fox maiden by Kinoko Craft, some talking chess pieces and something
by Susan Boulet and by Escher,... a wealth of imagery all united by
a common theme: they explored that moment when the real world was
somehow altered. Sometimes this border is obvious... a door into
Faerie or a mirror into Lookingglass-Land. Sometimes it is quite
subtle and surprising. I'm looking for entries which depict that
edge where reality shifts (wherever you find it). PRIZES: First
prize is a signed/numbered print of "The Spring" (the original is
shown above). $50 value, 20X30" outside size, shipped rolled. This
is my best-selling print: more than half the edition. As she knits,
the material of dreams flows from her hands and tumbles down the
mountainside. 2nd and 3rd prizes will be smaller black & white
prints of my inkwork, shipped flat. A couple can be seen here:
http://www.hauksdottir.com. If there are a lot of entries, I
reserve the option to add something for Honorable Mentions. HERE

**************************** This was a tough contest to judge.
There were many intriguing entries. We also liked the
fire-breathing dragon tattoo and the child clutching the world and
the angel hovering at twilight and the woman as vessel and the
window reflections... interesting concepts! The variety of
techniques and software was splendid. Thank you, all of you for
entering, for making art, for sharing an idea.
Winners
First Place
Fascinating... an image which captures that slippery moment when time as well as space jiggles into a new pattern.
Second Place
A complex and thought-provoking image... there is a rhythm, a sense of harmonics, holding everything together even as it is dissipating.
Third Place
This reminded me of an opera: "The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya" with the twinned city, the lake of mists, and the dream-state. A lovely piece!
