Trick or Treat? Colin lounged back in his chair staring at the clock on the task bar of his computer. The minutes just seemed to be dragging by. He had got a hot date with his girlfriend Samantha that night, so work was the last thing on his mind. Suddenly his mobile started to blare out the theme music from 'Scooby-Doo'. Colin was the sort of techie-freak that always changed the ring tone of his phone to match the time of the year. In his warped sense of humour, he had decided that for this Halloween he would go for a little 'Scooby'. "You bet I'm ready for tonight. The time could not quick enough. Seven. At the usually place. Great." That brief conversation with Samantha managed to keep him going until quitting time. He left the office in a rush, barely waiting for his computer to shutdown. In his haste, Colin failed to notice the large puddle of oil underneath his car. He was the sort of guy who normally drove the car into the dirt, and then when it decided to breakdown, he would go to a garage to get it fixed. His mind was elsewhere at the best of times, but on this occasion his thoughts were on Samuels Restaurant. After a quick shower and change, he was off to the restaurant. The anticipation of seeing Samantha was making him jittery. The restaurant was certainly playing along with the theme of the day. Waiters were dressed as Ghosts. Barmen dressed as Wizards. The waitresses dressed as Witches. The whole place was decked out with pumpkins, candles and all manner of decorations. Colin sat at the table with his eyes firmly on the main doors. He had already downed two glasses of what the restaurant called Pumpkin Brew in an attempt to calm his nerves. Samantha soon arrived. 'Jeez, she must only have been a few minutes behind me on the road,' Colin thought as he fought to stop his mouth dropping open. Samantha was radiant. Her long flowing auburn hair was loose around her shoulders. She was tempting him with a cute little witches outfit of her own. She was practical glowing with beauty. Colin rose to his feet as the waiter showed her across. "You look stunning. I guess I'm in line for a treat more than a trick tonight," Colin said as Samantha sat down opposite him. They enjoyed a lovely meal and talked for hours. Colin had always been comfortable with Samantha. This night was no different. Both of them had an extremely pleasant time and wished that the night would never end. The following morning, Colin woke up with a raging headache. He reluctantly turned to look at the sun starting to beam through the window of his apartment. 'What happened last night?' he asked himself in a daze. 'How did I get home? I can't remember anything. Did Samantha give me my treat?' he thought trying to work back through the haze of an alcohol induced fog. He gingerly sat up on the side of the bed. From the state of his head he started to get the feeling that he had missed out on his 'treat'. Suddenly his mobile phone rang on the cabinet beside the bed. Scooby-Doo music quickly smacked him as being a bad idea. Colin almost fell out of the bed in surprise. He picked it up and groaned a 'hello' to the person on the other end of the line. "Where have you been Colin? I've been trying to get you all night," Colin's long time friend said urgently. "I've been busy," Colin replied groggily. "I've got some bad news for you pal. It's about Samantha. It seems that she was driving to meet you last night and hit an oil patch on the road. She lost complete control of her car and slammed head on into a tree. I'm sorry Colin, but she was killed." "But that's not possible, I..." Colin started but soon trailed off as he felt a cold chill run down his spine. He jumped up from the bed and spun around to find Samantha standing across the room. Her head was down so that her hair covered her face. Colin was frozen with fear. Samantha quickly snapped her head up. Colin almost choked. Her face was battered, bruised, covered with blood and ripped apart by glass. Just as it would have been after smashing into the windscreen of a car. "Trick!" she screamed out like a banshee in the night. She rushed right at Colin headfirst just like a speeding car. The mobile dropped down to the floor with a dull thud. "Colin? Colin are you there?"
