The manger is now empty but the light still shines. It shines through multi- coloured clothing of people filled with the Christmas blessing. The photo of a Roman manger is one I took in Jerusalem in 2011. It was around in the Roman period, and is believed to have been in one of Herods buildings. The background contains a photo of Date palm leaves I took in Israel in 2011. I manipulated it in Photoshop adding different filters. Using the other Photoshop tools I created the candle flame. I took photos of wrapping paper I had at home and collaged them in. I was inspired by the Biblical account of Jesus, the light of the world who was born in a manger and hailed by Angels. I remembered how the Jews hailed Jesus as King using palm branches so I thought palm branches in the background could be used to trigger the idea of hailing Him today as the light of the world. I worked on it most of one day and then played with it off and over 4 more days. Adding the paper took just over an hour.
