"honey ... you bought them ... you wrap them" this image was inspired by the calvin and hobbes comic strip. calvin always tried to get his dad to buy him these crazy christmas gifts ... of course dad always caught on in time so i thought what would happen if calvin managed to sneak one past dad ... and get him to buy *real* mech robots !? i decided to set the whole scene in the future i imagine the conversation between mom and dad going something like this when the truck pulled up delivering these real robots: dad hmm ... i thought they were smaller mom maybe the url calvin gave you should have been a tipoff ... military-surplus.gov ? dad (defensive) i was in hurry mom so you got all this for $49.95 dad $49.95 each ... that or they raised our credit card limit mom well, honey, you bought them ... you wrap them everything was put together in 3d studio max and rendered in mental ray some parts were re-textured to make them look better the characters (iradian races for genesis here at rendo) were posed and clothed in daz studio ... then exported some slight color correction in photoshop total time to create the image about 10 hours render time was 1 hour
