Entry #32

Way back in the early 80's there was a cartoon show named Drak Pack, a group of monsters solving mysteries and crimes, in a similar way as Scooby-Doo does. When I heard this year's theme for Halloween contest, it was the very first thing it came to my head... I remembered how those cartoon monsters freaked out and ran away from danger. So initially I intended to do a cartoon-like illustration, but then I realized those monsters where the classic ones: Dracula, Frankenstein, Werewolf... so, I choosed instead a more photographic look and feel, and focused on recreate the faces of Karloff, Lugosi, Chapman and Chaney, who became famous as the artists who originally played those monsters on film. I had to use all my arsenal of digital resources with a lot of digital painting, filters and retouching. The mansion and trees at background are real pictures, burned and retouched to match the rest. To give the monsters a bit more realism, I used pictures of real clothes (mostly to take advantage of their natural wrinkles) then reunite all parts to recompose their bodies and heavily retouched and colorized. To finish, I added some typo and the usual horror movie phrases to give the art a vintage classic horror movie poster. PD: I added the Annabell doll just 'cause is this year's favorite monster. All the image was created in photoshop, except the text, which is Illustrator. Took me 5 complete days. Originally was a pencil drawing, then refined and colorized. I used a ton of pictures and filters.
