Entry #29

The Insurgence of Adonis

Description: This image is inspired by Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam as well as the Dungeons and Dragons settings and lore. What I have tried to portray is the rebellion of a lower class devil (known as a baatezu) against a far greater and higher caste Archdevil. While the renaissance masterpiece was a rendition of God imparting the spark of life into Adam with a fleeting touch of his finger, what I have here is an Archdevil intending to cast a finger of death upon the lesser devil Adonis, for his version of Original Sin: for daring to stand up against his lord and leader. The perspective is that of of the devil standing behind the doomed rebel leader, destined to be obliterated next after Adonis in this failed coup d'état.

Softwares used: Blender for creation of some custom models used here. Daz3d and its licensed material as asset sources and for rendering with IRay. Photoshop for creation of custom textures, compositing editing and post-process work.

Time Taken: 15 to 30 minutes for creation of the characters. 20 minutes for the creation of environment models. 3 to 3.5 hours for the creation of the scene, posing the characters/doodads and setting up the rendering processes and all other pre-production requirements. 7.5 hours for the rendering of all passes, not including lost frames. 1.5 to 2 hours for compositing, editing, post-work and HDR conversion through software.

Final words: Life could go by relatively easily if we submit to being just another cogwheel in society and allowing the 1% to treat us like expendable meat-children for satiating their boundless greed. But to stand up to our corrupt overlords and those who call us our superiors, requires miles and miles of heart and a spine of battle hardened steel. But after all said and done, it sure helps our cause if we aren't lawful evil in the 1st place!
