The inspiration was in trying to guess what the present is by its shape (… just what I always wanted).
I’ve dabbled in Poser for years but I discovered Blender in October, and then got Substance when it came on sale on Black Friday. So I started with Pauline, stripped her of all morphs, imported her in to Blender remodelled her body and face, and also made her outfit and all other props. I then made all the materials in Substance (except the label on the bottle which is the Poser early-adopters badge). Learning how to take a cube in Blender and end up with a dress took a couple of days. Remodelling Pauline took another couple. Making boots and getting them to conform to Pauline took more than a day. Then I took another day or so for all the other props. Figuring out how Pauline was UV’d, getting her into Substance Painter and making her skin texture was another couple. And it goes on … for her outfit and the stairs-to-nowhere and the solid metal tree that sitting on an empty cardboard box etc.
All-in-all it I would estimate it took over 100 hours (but most of that was learning the new software).
The programs used were: Blender, Substance (Painter, Designer and Bitmap2Materials), Corel PhotoPaint and Poser Pro 11.
It was rendered in Poser in about 3 hours with no post work.
