The inspiration for this piece comes from the poem, "Twas the Night Before Christmas", when the main character sees Santa for the first time on newly fallen snow on a moonlit night. The poem was written in 1823 and it was not until 1825 there was actually a full moon on Christmas night. The next Christmas full moon will be in the year 2034. This piece began as a pencil sketch, and then I painted it with watercolors using a variety of washes and sponges finishing with some post work in Photoshop.
