Entry #7

Small Hearts Beat Faster

“I’ll love you forever,” he swore, rashly.

“You can’t,” she whispered, wide-eyed.  “Faeries are too small to hold a thought – a love – for more than the time between a sunrise and set!”

He cupped her pointed chin with one tender hand, his blue eyes unflinching.  “I will love you, until the moon changes faces, until the leaves fall, until my wings’ last flutter.”

She felt her heart beat faster, until her narrow chest seemed to vibrate.  “We’re not big enough!” she cried, pulling him close into her embrace.  “Hear my heart!  Faeries cannot love like big folk-“

“Then we’ll grow!” he declared, holding her fast as their hearts ran in rhythm together, faster, faster.

“Or we’ll shatter into a thousand pieces...!” she murmured into his hair.
