Waking Up to the First Snow

Overcast grey skies, and frost painted on clear panes. Snowflakes slowly drifting through the chilly air, onto the still white blanket below. Untouched, silent, a muffling coat quieting the surrounding land, full of open promise. A fleeting moment of peace, soon to be broken by the excitement of a young child.
