Entry #22

Into the Void

Heading towards the void, a place most would avoid,

red glowing eyes appear, in the dark causing great fear,

they can be heard scuttling around in the dark, furry creatures with sharp teeth who can leave a mark,

but they do not appear to cause such fear, in fact they worry about you my dear!

They come around to try to save you from the void's place, they hurry at a very quick pace,

to rescue you from your hypnotized state,

even though the void appears to dictate,

where you are heading to be,

the rats hit you with a plea,

don't go any further towards death,

or it'll be your last breath.

You finally snap out of your haze,

and head back through the city maze,

red eyes watching you with relief,

even though what they know of you is brief,

they're happy that you'll go away,

and live for yet another day.

Inspiration: We get these story themes or tropes where certain groups are prejudiced to be 'the bad ones' - like wolf packs, and rats, and more - unfair repeated representations. I wanted to take one of these representations, and show them in a new light; show that while a group you may not fully understand may cause you fear, does not make them evil or dangerous. In this case I took the rats, and even though they caused fear, they end up saving you from harm.
