Time to Shut Down IP Thieves and Stop Stolen Content

Comments

Congrats that's a real great Statement! I left DA a lot of years ago because thousand's graphics (including my own) were stolen page by page!
RIGHT ON!!! I'm assuming this includes AI apps that go out and harvest images for inclusion in the app's prompt-generated "artwork." Great information here.
I could not agree more with the law and your intention to support it. I am so grateful to content creators for making the stuff with which I can illustrate my dreams and stories. It drives me nuts the there are those with no respect for content creators. If you don't like paying for things, make these things yourself, I say. What? Not talented enough to do that? Very frustrating. Thanks for your efforts to protect the creative people who make things available for purchase here. Molly
Been waiting for this day. Knowing around how long it has been going on, it kind of is about time to get serious and do something about them and someone who actually can do something about them. I think that it is very clear within the files TOU are that no sharing and no reusing/reselling. It kind of should be clear that you may not share the content to anyone. Maybe there should be somekind of education about what you can do with the content that you have bought and boughts rights to use it for? Something similar might be handy about educating people that just because you found cool images from Google, doesn't mean that you can use it in your stuff. -AI app developers actually are claiming that they are using even copyrighted images under educational lisence to create their art tools. Though am quite sure that if artists can proove that their works have been used to create an AI art tool which especially imitates their art style, it's malicious and plagitarism. Whenever there's content piracy of anykind really excuses often are that stuff is expensive and they're not available. Either these people do not know what saving is about. -Like you can save up until you can buy something. -I am very displeased with Daz for their "let's make room for new content and they keep these darn clearence sales and am there whimpering nooo I want to wait until I has money and stuff I had need is gone for good. Before that I was happy knowing that I have no worry in the world to build up my content library in my own pace and whenever my walley allows it. =..= Vendors might not like me being cheapskate but I stalk for sales. ^^' I hope it is OK, to wait for sales so you extend your limited budjet. Also, if you are new to 3D arts, it's no crime to start from slow. Learning to use Daz or Poser is going to take it's time and you can start with freebies they provide.( yep, vendors really do not like me ) Don't do wares. Penalties might depend from country to country but I guess that it depends from severity of crime and might be getting fined, sued or jailtime. Am no layer but in Finland if you plan to do arts or business, you need be very aware of copyright policity. I guess that in US it's even stricter. It was pretty good to know even about the fonts that you basically shouldn't use windows fonts to publish anything officially unless you have permission from Msoft for that. -Also about the digital content that you buy, it's alwaysa a good idea to save up every single receipt. And in unclear cases I do advice vendors to kindly ask the person to show the receipt.
Thank you for supporting the rights of the creators. A suggestion: why not create an installer for Renderosity products? Regards.
The problem is, these sites are often housed on servers that fall outside of the jurisdiction of the DMCA. Reporting to the admins gets your nothing because they posted it int he first place. Reporting to the server hosts gets you nothing because they aren't under US or Interpol/EU, so they don't care. Reporting it to Internic gets you nowhere because they hide behind Safe Harbor and nothing. So in very real terms, there's nothing you can do and no one who will do anything.
Seconding the motion for this to include AI apps - until they run on a database that contains ONLY legally acquired images (open source + public domain + CC0 + made specifically to be fed to AI), they are ALL stolen. It feels like a punch in the gut for us original artists to see sections of Renderosity dedicated to AI images.
As RodS referred to - Does this include AI Apps which have stolen images for their generators to be trained on? If this is the case, then I feel the AI Generated gallery Renderosity has established needs to be removed because in all likelihood, images posted there were stolen with out the creators consent. If we are to support creators, then the removal is a good starting point.
The pirates have a number of justifications and excuses, but there is just one truth, they are thieves. Much more destructive than they will ever know. I will never publish my trade secrets, or tips and tricks, which probably would have been free YouTubes anyway, because they will be stolen within mere hours, and likely the thief will file a copyright strike against ME, so I won't even get the recognition or a thanx here and there!
Thanks for taking this stance. I'd agree that this should include items using AI. I find it really perverse that some people are quite happy to use AI to generate images, using other creator's work, but then claim copyright themselves in the AI image!
I agree in spirit, but I'm afraid something that can be easily replicated, like IP (not just artistic work, but also text like tutorials, knowledge) is very hard to protect. Traceability helps in this matters (you find a replicated product and maybe you can identify the buyer) but even then, it could be that the product was stolen from the original buyer. It's a complicated subject and a daunting task. Anyway... hope you can increase your protection of the artists.
I think Pic is a site where pirated stuff can be found. Or if not pirated then published without artist's consent. One of my customers asked me one day if I had a Pixiv account because my comics where shown there. We're talking about a thousand pictures. I didn't have a Pixiv account. I contacted Pixiv and filed a complaint. They didn't get a f...
IP theft is a form of parasitism. If the content creators can't make a reasonable living from their efforts they will have to make a living somewhere else and everyone will suffer.
Hmm, you may want to generalise even more in some elements, you point out yourselves that he law depends on the country, but then refer to the DMCA - that is USA law. About the installer, some people may like it, for others (like me) being forced to use an installer could be enough to discontinue using and buying stuff from Renderosity. I use Daz Studio (and despite the link between Poser and Renderosity, I would not be surprised if at least 50% of customers of Renderosity use Daz), but I even purchased Poser content old and newer, and used it with Daz, which already has basically two installers (three, if counting the old products that come as an exe installer). I basically use only one for Daz, DIM, repackaging the content as needed, or occasionally install something manually, because DIM uses standard zip files, not proprietary formats. A proprietary installer would be something that would definitively push people like me away (though again, I may represent a minority).
@Fantasyart3D With all due respect, that is a terrible idea. None of these measures have ever worked, and they just make life harder for the legitimate users who paid for the content. The ability to just edit regular files in the filesystem is something I would not want to lose because of the actions of dishonest people.
I have some info for those not liking AIArt or the data-mining since its being mentioned in the thread, many users concerned: Do you use Photoshop? Check this out: https://youtu.be/pH2LDENz8RY For years now Adobe has had permissions triggered automatically that allow them to use your art for yes data harvesting for machine training...! So if you've had this feature turned on potentially any and every picture Photoshop or the other suite has touched has mined the data and you have given them the rights to it! AND - let's go into who the Stable Diffusion thing was surely developed for; Adobe Here - https://youtu.be/dD9vpO2zaJw - this video is 5 months old and was recorded at least 2 months before that, when most people thought "AiArt" was that disturbing Deep Dream Google thing if they had any idea what it was at all. Already it was able to dive into a database and use other artists style. That is why you had that check-mark in your Adobe software without knowing it if you use it. That is why so far back the person on the second video was able to rip Miyazaki's work casually with a GUI custom for photoshop long before Midjourney launched... I'm for AIart and use it - putting my own stuff into it. Lots of software has AIart tools already such as Adobe, Painter, etc. I'd upload but it's been mostly ...Adult only... so would get taken down, but I've seen neat anime style conversions, etc. Not ripping off anyone's 'style' just using it to make my own and with my 3d skills and amateur art skills it really helps. However anyone who doesn't like it should go against those it was obviously developed for, but then the people developing it didn't get enough $ so the tool meant to be for top elite artists in the Adobe system got to the public. You might get Midjourney to scrub your style but the $999 a year Adobe option - or IF they paid $ to access the same source? "Sorry, you signed the EULA. Try to arbitrate with said party hired by the people you have a dispute with." So you anti-AI users might check all your software, staring with Photoshop, a LOT has little checks or something in the 900 pages of the EULA to ALLOW "Data mining and machine learning" in some form or another that the AI people paid to access and the law will be on their side.
This is more than great, I wish this was around when my models were snatch up. I will start using this now even though my store is closed.
Good on you for posting this. Artists deserve to be paid for their work.
You can't make me happier with this article. It's a perfect statement and I'm glad you're against it.
I may be naive, but as a long time Renderosity customer, I never even imagined that someone could - and did - steal the products that creators post in your market place. It's a real shame and I hope that something can be done to avoid or minimize it.
