MarketPlace Showcase F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 6:56 pm)
I know I'm a dim light but I don't understand the difference between all the different texture maps. There are five different texture maps packages in addition to Vicky 3 in addition to her head morps and her body morphs. If I need to buy eight different packages to use her, I can't afford to invest in any of the packages. Could you explain what the differences are to a techno idiot like me? The price for Vicky 3 (with the Platinum Club discount and the original discount) seems quite reasonable until I started looking at all the confusion of add ons. Any help available??????
Thanks guys! You made my year! Dialyn: I'm a tad confused about the "highlight & contour" maps myself. All i can figure from the description is they're easier to use if you stink at lighting. I'm no expert, but my take on it is this: The difference twixt high and standard resolution maps is size...high is bigger and gives more detail. (And takes more space and more time to render). I believe you could get away with any one of the map sets. Unless you're heavily in to close ups, I'd stick with the standard res regualar maps. Or, you can not buy any and wait for free ones to show up. When V2 came out, free textures were available a day or two afterwards.
Dialyn, right now I only bought the upgrade, the head morphs, the body morphs, and that new faces package that is only 1.99 for Platinum Club members, and the total was only $31.00. Not bad, I'd say. Figured I'd start small and think about those other packages later ... besides, she's backwards compatible with all the stuff you already have. :-) Rhi
Thanks...it seemed like a lot of options to show up all at once. I nearly went to impulsively by but remembered I've had some unexpected expenses this holiday season and investing in Vicky 3, no matter how pretty she'd look in a temple, is just beyond me. I am certainly looking forward to the great renders that will come out of this. Have fun, gang!
dialyn: I has some of the same confusion, but think this is it: Victoria 3.0 Universal Texture Maps (High Res) or (Low Res), think these are the "basic vicki v3 textures" Victoria 3.0 No Gen. Texture Maps, no genitalia or nipples. Not understanding what these would be used for myself. Victoria 3.0 Highlight/Contour Texture Maps (HighRes) or (Low Res). Highlights are ON the textures, cant NOT have them so they are for different effects of lighting that the Universal textures don't have. Fashion Model Face Maps for V3. Basically a face makeup kit if ya want it. So, way I see it is is 3 full textures sets in dif flavors, and a Face makeup texture pack. That makes 4 dif 'sets' to me. "you have 5 different texture packages to choose from..", I'm not seeing the 5th set, then again, maybe its coming. If I'm wrong here please more info, after 15mins this is all I could figure out...haha! So many decisions. So little cash.
This was my five count: Victoria 3.0 Universal Texture Maps (High Res) Victoria 3.0 Universal Texture Maps (Standard Res) Victoria 3.0 No Gen. Texture Maps Victoria 3.0 Highlight/Contour Texture Maps (HighRes) Victoria 3.0 Highlight/Contour Texture Maps (Standard Res) I think I'm counting the HighRes separate from the Standard Res, but I haven't a clue if anyone would buy both or not. Thanks for the break down. Appreciate it. :)
Yup ... I figured the maps would be different. I guess I just don't understand what I read: V3 to V2 Cr2 and OBJ Backwards Compatibility for use with V1/V2: Poses Clothing and Accessories Maps Compatible with V3 Head Morphs V3 Blank CR2 (identical to V3 CR2, but without morph channels for injection) So can someone tell me what this means? In two-year old Poser language? Pretty please?
5 maps:
Head (nice size for face. front and back of head laid out.)
Body (all one piece.)
Mouth (teeth and gums. Every tooth is labeled!)
Eyes (all in one spot.)
Transparencies (eyelashes, eyebrows, etc.)
The seam for the body is straight down the back - the spine and inner thighs. This will be a nightmare for people wanting to make back tattoos if they don't have a program like Deep Paint 3D. (Then again, there's always a problem area due to seams, it's just a question of where to put the problem area.)
The texture template is color coded so it will be easier to create textures. Some of this will be an SOB to convert from V2, but there is a Vicki 3 to Vicki 2 that can use V2 textures. (I just tried it with dalinese' Brown Sugar package and it worked just fine.)
I will go ahead and bitch about this, I do not like the way these morphs are set up in my pose folder ... I've got enough stuff in there, this makes it ridiculously long, it adds 26 more items in there to scroll down. I tried adding all the head and body morphs, but when you close Poser and go back in, they're all gone ... and it takes a few minutes to load 'em all. Maybe if you save it as your default state?

Some of you might want to take a look at the faq sheet. Does explain the difference between the maps. They are apparently planning tutorials for DAZ Arcana which may help. Not that anyone can wait to play with the newest toy but they might help at some point. Thanks for the confirmation Elor, that's kinda' what I thought ... and I agree, she is going to need new clothes. Some of the clothes that have morphs may work, but many won't. But you know, I've never tried texturing and had considered attempting something ... this mat looks like it "could" be a bit easier to work with ... dont' know though, 'cause I never tried it, but I think I will now. :-) V3 looks pretty awesome at first glance ... wish I could stay up, but gotta' get some sleep. :-)
Just HAD to get up a little early and experiment. V3 is definitely pretty awesome ... the V3 to V2 option allows you to use V2 mats, and also V2 clothing with no problems at all. Depending on the clothing, some can be morphed to fit her with little difficulty, depending on the clothing and the morphs you apply to the V3 figure as well. One thing I have discovered, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, in either case, V2 facial and body morphs do not work in either case. But, the new morphs that come with V3 are excellent ... she does take more time to work with, but I think the end result is much, much nicer.
PabloS....you just lost me here V2 compatibility is accessed by a separate "OBJ model and CR2 figure, for backwards compatibility" Let's be simple with my simple little brain, I have Vicky 2, I want to upgrade to Vic 3 with all the new stuff, what am I buying? Sharen PS: thanks for helping the village idiot
gives Daz a huge kiss I love you guys in more ways than one! I stayed up through the night, setting my alarm and getting up to check my downloads (dialup! lol) and everything is done! She so totally rocks, guys! Weee :) Sharen - You gotta get the base upgrade and the textures for Vicky... And backwards compatibility means you can use the V2 textures on the figure that is "Vicki 3 to Vicki 2" :)
Sharen, I haven't got it yet but here's the way I read it: Whether you buy the ugrade or the full version, you get two characters. One is V2's body with a V3 head for backwards compatibility (will take v2's clothes & maps). The other is the complete, all-new V3 (will need new maps and clothes, but is much better). But i could be wrong.
Yeah,I like it this way. You can load"all face" or "all body"or "all chest"etc.as a quick way to load them all for a particular need. Try this. Go to The "all morphs" folder and select + all morphs. Then go take a nap or eat lunch while it loads them all. Then you'll see just why she was done this way...lol Tom
“The fact that no one understands you…Doesn’t make you an artist.”
LOL! That just about sums it up Tom ... I tried that one last night. :-) It took about five minutes at least on my system. If someone did happen to want to load them all and keep her that way, after you load 'em all you can just make it your default state and when Poser opens, V3 with all her morphs will be there ... haven't tested how long it might take to open this way, I only tested it with a few morphs. This would't eliminate the files in the Poser folder though, which is my beef. I've never really minded all the dials, it's all the scrolling in my Pose folder that irritates me the most (I've got LOTS of mat pose files), but if she is easier to work with this way, then I think I can get used to it.

I hope that some of the merchants revised their maps to use with V3 and offer them for previous customers ... is that asking too much? There are some that are my absolute favorites and I love using them ... of course, I know I can continue to do so, but it would be nice to have them for V3 as well. Can't be too awfully difficult, right?? :-)
