Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
Agree with above...ME is sad excuse for OS. I'd suggest XP (or even W2K if you can get your hands on it). I ran P4 under 98 and when I upgraded to XP, I had NO more troubles at all. There is only one reason one of our PCs has ME on it in our house and that's because my wife thinks it's cute that her initials are the same as the OS...LOL.
Why do you want to add more RAM? I'm running Poser 4.03 on a 300Mhz 62Mb ram system with between 1G to 300Mb free on the hard drive. Never had any problem with Poser. Its kinda nice actually, I can bend an elbow during a commercial and the screen finishes refreshing just in time for the next commercial break. :) I'd be downloading Vicky 3 right now but really, what's the point I can only use my computer for a few hours each night... Get home from work turn on computer, fix dinner, open Poser and load Vicky3, eat dinner, bend an elbow, watch the news, save file, goto bathroom, shut down computer, goto bed. I think this was the first post I saw that doesn't complain about V3. Happy Holidays everyone!
The main problem with Win 9x (which includes ME) and >512MB is that the disk cache can grow without limit, slowing and evetually crashing the system. MS offer a fix (setting min and max sizes for vcache) in their Knowledge Base - I recall it was fairly easy to find, though I'm afraid I've deleted my copy since upgrading to XP. There is another, more severe, problem but it doesn't come in until you have 1.5GB or more.

Should I add another 512 Meg chip to my system? I am running Win ME with 320 Meg of RAM on board. Heard that Win ME cannot use more than 512. Will Poser 4 be able to utilize the full 820 Meg? Will it hurt Win performance and other applications? Please help me make an informed decision. Thanks, MI
