Subject: P5 render crash with V3

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 22 December 2002 at 8:39 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 1:28 PM

I didn't put this in the Beta forum, as I can find nothing to state if V3 is supposed to work fully with Poser 5 or not. Tonight I was trying to do a comparison with Vic3 and Vic3 to Vic2 in the same scene. Applied Vic 3 hires tex to V3 character, and applied a Vic 2 texture to the V3/V2 figure. Hit render...the "loading texture" dialog box was active for over 30 minutes with nothing appearing to be going on, so I hit cancel....it went into the cancel mode, but again just sat there. So I thought maybe if I were to change rooms or something the dialog box would go away...instead another render box opened with "loading texture" again....I hit cancel with the same result as before, but now I had 2 loading textures, and 2 cancel boxes open in different rooms...pretty screwy... Anyway, it was Ctrl/Alt/Del Poser 5. This condition is something that was happening prior to SR2...on my system, and I have not had the problem since installing SR2.1.... I'm going to try it again to see if it is repeatable. Perhaps Poser 5 cannot contain more than 1 Vic 3 character at a time, or maybe using the V3/V2 figure messes something up when Vic3 is loaded as well ????

Could someone else try this with Poser 5 ???

I gave up on using v3 in P5.

This is the first real problem I've had..other than its a real pain to inject the morphs...they don't seem to show up all the time...have to open other rooms, close the parameter dials, and so forth..sometimes several times...and even after waiting quite awhile to make sure they load. Not sure if it works that way in P4...haven't tried, but am nearly ready to go back to P4 with Vic3 myself.

Are you using V3 from a linked runtime?

silverstar ( ) posted Sun, 22 December 2002 at 10:54 PM

I had the same problem several times... it seemed to go away after rebooting and starting over. I know this isn't much help... but at least you know you're not alone with this problem.

Kiera... No, I installed V3 directly in my Poser 5 runtime... After posting the above message, I tried the same scene again and it worked, so not sure what happened... In fact, the post with the V3, V3toV2 comparison was the one I was trying to do.

It just happened again...the render lock...it is actually a lighting problem. Changed lights...whammo

I don't get the lighting problem.. I see lots of posts about issues with P4 light sets being a pain in the ass in Poser 5, but I haven't had a crash as a result of that once.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 22 December 2002 at 11:34 PM

It was a P4 light..the A2Z lights... previous crash I was using the same lights. Guess I need to stay away from them.

"I gave up on using v3 in P5." i gave up on using p5.

I went back to P4 after the problems rendering last night, and it is a real pain to use after using P5...its the little stuff....mouse scrolling, the ability to see the words in the parameter dials, the directory structure, and so on. I think I'm hooked on P5.... there are still some issues, its much slower...but it seems to flow better once you get used to it.
