Is there a tutorial that explains in laymans terms and a little more involved in combining two figures to make one other than in the poser4 handbook?...I have been trying to make a naga(part man part snake) and am hopelessly lost trying to do it the way that the book reads.If someone could email me a link or point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful!!!! I am not sure of any links,but there is the Poser 4 Handbook published by Charles River Media, which covers quit a bit.

heya; i thought pdblake wrote one, did you search the tutorial section? search for 'combine,' there ought to be one.

i wanna use the rattlesnake in poser4 i have the snakes head off and I have the legs off of a chic but I cant figure oout how to put them together in poser itself....im about ready to pluck my hairs out of my head one by one with tweezers!!!!!!!!!

Ah, the new patch for Poser 4, Poser 4.0.2 allows you to save several characters as a single .cr2, so with hidden body parts you can combine characters - texture mapping and matching will be a nightmare though. Put a cats head on a female body - tut below: 1) Combine/pose the figure(s) just how you want them 2) Save it all as a .pz3 file. Just in case 3) When complete export as an .obj, uncheck all the items you don't wish to keep ie. the other head. 4) Open a new Poser document and import this .obj 5) Open the Grouping tool and spawn props 6) In Heirarchy Editor rebuild the figure, all the bits you don't need will have disappeared when you exported the .obj. 7) Select the Hip and press Create new figure 8) Name the set, it will appear in the New Character library 9) Open a new Poser document - there's no point retaining the rebuilt .obj. 10) Assign materials to the various parts. Most will already have the correct materials but if you added elements you may need to assign them with materials such as 'skin',make sure you use the same spelling and upper and lower case as in the pull down materials menu, otherwise you are making it difficult for yourself, and colours won't be uniform across the model 11) Textures will also map beautifully, without the ugly breaks that you get from editing .objs in RDS! Notice all this was done in Poser! 12) Save this as a new character before attempting the joint parameters... You will now have a mapped figure with parameters set up for all parts... except for the bends... aaaargh

Oliver, thanks for a great and esy to follow explanation. But what about texture mapping? AFAIK, when you create a figure on the Hier. Ed. the geometry gets included in the cr2 file as text, not pointed at an obj in some folder (as you see on poser's default characters). So, how can I use UVmapper to create the texture template? If I use it on the .obj resulting from step 3 it will work on the resulting character?

Dear Rorschach I am supposed to be grouting the tiles in the bathroom:-( I know what you mean. Will have a go at exporting the .cr2 as an .obj and using this for UVmapper. Will come back when I've done it. Have you tried it yet? That'll teach me to shoot my mouth off before I've sussed it all out;->

Ah, when you Create new character Poser generates a new .obj file in the smae target folder in New Characters. I have used UVmapper on this file and it gemerates all the parts in the new character - some overlap - so will need to edit it and save a new .obj file, haven't done this bit yet as I suppoesed to still be doing the tiling... ho hum

Oliver, my Poser doesn't create any obj file on the New Figures folder (P4 on PC), but I can load the cr2 with the CR2Editor and save it as an obj. The trouble then is to make the cr2 file to point at that textured geometry instead of the one it contains. If you open the cr2 you'll see that instead of the usual adress of the obj file there is a vertex by vertex description of the mesh. Should I erase that and put the obj adress there? Sorry, but I'm not adept on cr2 editing. Rorschach

Rorschach, I'm a bit puzzled that the .obj doesn't appear in the target folder, surely mac and PC should do the same? In my .cr2 file the .obj is mentioned in only 2 places and both point to this newly created .obj. Once at line 7: figureResFile:Runtime:Libraries:Character:New Figures:New Set.obj and again at line 14202! And yes I also have got custom geometries for the neck and head written into the file. All I would do is rewrite in the .cr2 where you have put the newly generated .obj and see if that works. Not crossing any fingers of course.

heyas; why dont you just use the human figure template for the human half and the snake figure template for the snake half? (besides the fact that there'd be a seam...)
