Subject: Things on my mind/Importing from Poser.

I have now for a short while been a member here at Renderosity.Great place and as I can see from this forum there is a lot of good helpers everythime you may have a problem.I have been using V4 for 3 months and have at this time only good things to say about the program. All software have it's minuses, so has V4. But in this big world of 3D I came to the answer that V4 has only minor probs. As working with V4 I wanted to have human caracters in some of my work. After reading a little I came to the conclution that Poser must be the one for me.I always like to try things before I buy them so I borrowed a computer who has Poser 4 installed. After installing my V4 on the same computer and trying to open a poser character I get the message in V4 that the serial number on the Poser is incorrect. I then get my friends Poser cd (original) and did a reinstall of the program. After installing a message box comes up with "error 404". But the program works 100% exept when I try to open Poser char., in Vue.Now in late january I will buy Poser 4, but if importing to V4 is a problem I think i will skip it.It is a terrible job to translate Poser files using "ADtrans" just for importing them. Both programs are originals!!!! Anybody have a clue? One more small thing in the end, to all of you members who visit other peoples work in the gallery, please make comments it will be a great help for new work. "Imagerox" says hello to everybody in Renderosity :-)))

Well I know something, make sure that Poser is not running at the same time Vue is, it has to be closed. Try that, then import your pz3. Sharen

The computer probably had a copy of Poser installed with a Serial Number that had been blacklisted as a warez number. Borrowing software is ILLEGAL!

And if it's a older copy of Poser you got to upgrade it and get a new serial number. Metacreations owned Poser 4 but now it's owned by a different company and that new companies update to Poser 4 works with Vue 4. Metacreations Poser never worked with Vue that I'm aware of.

Answer to "cheers" The computer not software that I borrowed belongs to a design firm where I work part time. I agree with you, newer use copied software.

So long as you buy your own copy of P4, you should be fine. Poser 4 stuff imports with no problems into the latest version of Vue. If you are only able to find Poser 5 you may have trouble. I haven't had any problems in the last few days when I've imported pz3s created in P5 into Vue 4, but I have the latest version of Vue, and Poser 4 and 5 installed on my machine.

I should have added that the P5 hair still does not import, but transmapped hair will come into Vue with no problems.

I think SAMS3D might have hit the nail on the head. Make sure Poser is installed but NOT running when you try to import your .pz3 scene. redon634 - are you saying that Poser 5 does work with Vue? I've been unclear on that point for some time. jon

jstro - I hadn't used Vue in a while, but needed to use it the last week or so and I was able to import pz3 files I had created in P5. I do still have P4 installed separately on the same drive. I have the latest update for Vue - 4.11 I believe it is. So I have to say that for me it works, but I'm not sure it would for someone who only had P5 installed. Seems like the first time I had to import a pz3, back when I only had P4, I had to point Vue to my Poser.exe (I assume so it could check my serial and perhaps registration?). I'm not sure if you pointed Vue to a P5 exe install if it would work.

Another explanation could be: you have to install poser first and the to install (or may be re-install) Vue d'esprit, in order that all works. I guess to you have to patch poser 4 before installing Vue... Then when you install Vue, if i remember well, there's a detection of poser when you try to import a .pz3 file for the first time. In all the cases, i've Vue and poser 4 and it works very well together.

jstro, I also have used Vue 4.11 with Poser 5 pz3 and it worked fine. Sharen

redon64, Sharen - That is good to know. Sharen, is it safe to assume that you also have P4 installed? I guess my concern is that if someone did not have any Poser and decided to get P5 and Vue, would that combo work? I have P4, so it's not an issue for me, but if someone else is thinking about it, I wonder if they will be disapointed if they buy P5 and Vue. I know P5 can create pz3 files, but will Vue recognize a stand alone P5 installation? I'm still not sure on this point. jon

I use both Poser 4 and 5 and they are installed in separate directories. I never combined them, so they are like 2 different programs and they share things. Of course that means I have double of some files but I plan on removing them anyway when I have time. Whether Vue recognizes P5 or P4 I am not sure, all I know is when I want to import a pz3 file it has no problems. So I guess I did not answer your question. I just don't know. Maybe someone from the Poser forum might be able to help. Like Pokeydots has Vue and installed Poser 5 over Poser 4 so she has like one program and I know she uses Vue. Maybe she would be the one to ask. Sharen

I have both Poser 4 and 5. Vue will import a pz3 made in Poser 5 about 50% of the time. Don't know why some will and some won't... It looks like it starts to import, but I get no message box or warning. Just never appears. I have just recently re-installed both Poser 4 and 5 to another drive. I only kept Poser 4 because of the import to Vue. It may be that you need your Poser runtime files in the Poser 4 runtime. That is one thing I didn't do after the re-install - I put everything in Poser 5's runtime. Peggy

I have only P5 and Vue4.11 and have the same bogus "Invalid serial number" BS going on. Suspect it to be the overzealous copyright protection from CL,... have patched to the latest P5 SR, and tried again, but still got hosed by Vue on imported pz3s. Question: does the pz3 hold a copy of the serial number?? surely not,... that would go beyond paranoid to ludicrous.

gebe ( ) posted Tue, 07 January 2003 at 8:10 AM

As I have only Poser 4, I'm not sure to give you the right answer TalonGE, but always consider, when importing a Pz3 file into Vue, that Poser has to be closed before you do so. Otherwise you always will get an error message. Guitta

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Tue, 07 January 2003 at 8:30 AM

TalonGE - You must have Poser 4. The serial number from Poser 5 will not work. Hopefully E-on will get this fixed as soon as possible. Peggy

Danka Peggy,... after much, too much, uninstalling/deleting, and reinstalling, I came to that same conclusion (concusion??). TalonGE
