'bout time she got some new clothes. I made the pants today..and as far as modeling goes, it was easy. But making them conform was not a pretty task. Seems v3 has some rather off-normal falloff zones in there that exist for no other reason than to piss me off! lol But I found them and made changes to the clothes to adapt to them. I now know what jim burton was talking about when he said that making conforming clothes for v3 might be beyond some clothing makers. but, all in all it was fun...I only broke 3 glasses against the wall, and only kicked the cat 4 times. I dont count the time I kicked it when I was celebrating finding the damn zone that was such a pain! btw, is it just me or do v3's hips just look 'abnormal'? I have yet to make a pose with her where they dont look like a rubber toy thats been squished into shape. BT

Looks great.I know you use amapi for modelling as i do. But making skintight clothes is a real challange for me. I tried the gordon surface most of the time . Any tips and tricks or tuts ??

brycetech ( ) posted Sun, 12 January 2003 at 2:02 AM

the parts that are not exactly 'skin tight' are gordon surfaces..like the bottom part of the pants legs. the upper part is a combination of using the pen tool and drawing a few base lines over existing lines on the model then drawing polys over your new lines. this will give you a very rough low poly model that you would then shape to a more precise shape with the stretch tool. Do this on the low poly version because its faster than trying it on a smoothed version. I use version 6, so I can 'slice' new polys in the places I want to add more roundness to the figure without smoothing..if you dont have 6 then you probably just use the 'smooth' tool and add more polys that way. btw, only model 1/2 of your top/bottom or whatever, make that half fit your model near the way you want. If you plan to smooth it, smooth and use the dynamic geometry feature to reposition portions 'exactly'. The use the properties menu to remove the smoothing. After this, perform a symmetry operation, weld the two halves..then smooth. This will give a cleaner look than smoothing and then doing the symmetry. one more small tip. while you are creating your model, if you notice that it is too 'tight' of a fit, use the 'offset' tool and create a new model using it and delete (or hide) the original. The offset one will be the same shape but a bit larger..its better to do this than to 'scale' because of the differences in the way the two operations behave. Watch this tool tho because it can do some wierd things to your model that you will have to fix...so hiding the original model is probably smarter than deleting. hope that helps BT

Release, release, release I got yhr top and my V3 are chomping at the bit for those pants. and for those that wanna know the top loads great in taylor and MT's out well!

brycetech ( ) posted Sun, 12 January 2003 at 2:34 AM

the pants are a while away lee.., tho the top is done and up in the store, Im still working on the hair too. you cant see it in the above renders, but the pants are made to go with that top..has all the frilly things at the base and waist that you can texture separately (just like the top) or it can be textured with a denim texture and make dressy pants (I really ought to just do that and include it with them) or you can do like I did above and not use transparency and have leather or vinyl pants as well. Its made to be extremely versatile and be used for a million things just by doing a little texture changing. btw, got any cool images of that top yet? BT

Not yet, had to do a few flaming hoop tricks to get V3 loaded and saved so I could bring her into taylor. Since P5 saved figures will not load into it. but P4 ones will (the backface cull material that is added) but once I got her set up she worked great. All I would ask for the pants, aside from getting them doen quickly. would be a few MT for fitting. In your renders they look great and would go very well with the top. (Got it at the Other place.) I did get to do a test fit of it with the Ve that is going to be in the hacker series. She liked it and thought it would look good with a mini (it does) but if she sees these pants she may try a stop work till i can buy them. anyways take your time, haveing worked with you some time agao I know you can get things doen very well.

It looks more and more like Vickie 3 will become a "pro" thing and Vickie 2 will be for hobbyists. For both technical and financial reasons...

brycetech ( ) posted Sun, 12 January 2003 at 5:53 AM

I'll look at the morphs for fitting. Since I do not know what people want to 'fit', its hard to guess what I should make morphs for...and there are just too many v3 morphs to hit all areas. Id happily entertain suggestions on what parts you'd like to see morphs on. btw, I dont have vicky2 or I'd go ahead and make these fit her..and since she's so different I guess if clothes are "made for" v3, they will only fit her. Can you give us a hint on how to get P5 figures into Tailor? I tried it with a model I bought and thought it was the model not the P5 file save/structure. BB

compiler ( ) posted Sun, 12 January 2003 at 2:21 PM

I heard that Tailor cannot accept P5 cr2 files, because of a change in the structure, and that it won't get updated in the very near future. (see various threads below) Compiler
