You should have the same kind of files in a single folder in your libraries. Unfortunately, some authors don't include a correct path into their zips so, if you don't have a look at it, you'll end up with a messy library... Sometimes the read me forget to tell you that there is a Geometry to decode, sometimes they are written in Japanese. The professional zips are rather safe and standardised, but the freestuff are not (but, hey, they are free...). I always unzip the files in a temporary folder and install them manually afterwards : it's longer but safer. So where should your files go ? It doesn't depend on what they represent : hair can be done as a prop (pp2), hair (hr2) or character (cr2). What IS important is the extension of the files. cr2 : go to any subfolder in the character folder of your library cm2 : camera folder lt2 : light folder fc2 : face folder hr2 : hair folder hd2 : hand folder pz2 : pose folder pp2 : props folder mt5 : material folder of Poser 5 library In Poser 5, you can use compressed files : they replace the 2 with a z (cr2 becomes crz), but otherwise follow the same rules pcf : these are coded files. You need objaction mover to make a geometry out of them. If you don't know what it is, do a search for objaction in the freestuff. jpg, bmp, bum, gif, pict : they all go into your texture folder png : they usually go into your library folders. You must own Poser 5 or Poser Pro Pack to use them (or you can convert them by using a png to rsr function in some other program. Like P3DO explorer, for instance) rsr : these go with another file (obj, cr2, whatever) if you use PC. You won't have rsr's if you use a Mac. Keep the rsr with the file of the same name. Rsr can be deleted without much ill effects. Actually, when a geometry doesn't load, it is often a good trick to delete the obj's rsr before retrying. obj : these are most important. Always check where they should go. Most of the times, they go in the Geometries folder under a specific sub folder, but sometimes, they go in a sub folder of the character folder. Always read the read me if you can. If you cant', open the cr2 with a text editor (I use wordpad) and search for "obj". You will see the path where the obj is supposed to be installed. You can even edit it by changing the path and putting the obj in a folder that suits more your liking (I hate to have obj files in my character folder...). But remember : there can be no mistake ! If you mess up something, Poser won't open your character because it won't find the geometry. So don't forget to make a backup before modifying your cr2, and remember that file paths are case sensitive. You have been warned ! Hope this helps. Compiler
... a water bed. It's still sloshin' around just a bit. ************************************** "Sides, I'm not finished "peelin' the onion" on Poser 4 yet. When I finish with Poser 4 ... ... then I'll start on Poser (4+1). <--- for y'all math wizards. ;=] cheers, dr geep ;=]

Okay wow, all of these files are overwhelming!! I have downloaded a bunch of freebie stuff and read the readmes where it says to use the file path and everything would just unzip where it is supposed to go. Well in a lot of the files that didnt happen. Now I have clothes and hair in my charcters folder and hair in my props folders. I guess my question is.. Is it a pretty cut and dry setup? Does hair only go in the hair folders? and do hair files only go in charcters or also in props? I am so confused. If someone could point me in the right direction to a view of how each category should be set up?? Thanks so much in advance Annette
