Subject: DAZ Site Problems?

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 9:30 AM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 2:16 AM

I get: "Database error: pconnect(db.daz3d.com, store, $Password) failed. MySQL Error: () Session halted." ...when clicking on any of the stores. Don't seem to have problems at my other usual hangouts. Wondering if it's me.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 9:44 AM

I had problems earlier, too.

Still same error here, too... sigh.

Ditto. :(

wrpspeed ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 10:04 AM

probably has to do with the major internet denial of service outages all over the place yesterday.

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 10:06 AM

Yeah, wrpspeed, I wondered about that. My memory sucks so bad, I can't remember if I checked their site yesterday. Also, all the people talking about the new freebie and mermaid that I figured it was up yesterday.

Crescent ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 10:09 AM

I'm getting in just fine right now. I hit that problem yesterday and just Refreshed the screen a few times to get in.

Maybe. We lost our Proxy (which connects to UUNet, by default). UUNet was hit severely, as you can see at the link above. I had to power of the server an restart it. Willy

I hope this problem will be solved on Monday !!

melanie ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 10:37 AM

On the news last night, there was something about a worm that infected servers all over. I don't know any details about it, but that's probably the problem. My Internet Explorer defaults to the DAZ site and I couldn't click into any of their pages this morning. Melanie

Erlik ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 11:38 AM

The worm actually attacks SQL servers, and that probably (certainly?) was the problem at DAZ. Everybody else suffered because of the noise that the worms generated over the Net.

a_super_hero ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 12:29 PM

I do not think it was the worm because that attacked SQL 2000 servers (microsoft) and not MySQL (Linux/Unix) servers.

sandoppe ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 12:31 PM

I had no problems yesterday (Saturday)....except for some of those little errors noted by some of you. Today (Sunday) it is down all around. Sent them an email, but I suspect they already know. Poser World had a problem yesterday (installed a Microsoft security patch and had problems on their subscription server). The behavior at DAZ looks like the worm got 'em!

pendarian ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 2:07 PM

I sent them an email also...and there are a few things that I was going to buy today that the sale ends tomorrow :( Today is the first day I've had problems getting in...but I would agree, looks like the worm got them :( What a mess eh?

whbos ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 2:45 PM

I've got the same problem. The Internet has been dragging really bad the last day or so since that worm thing.

The turtle'll still be there tomorrow...I may get him, too and the Moray Eel so they can swim thru the reef together...

I'll bet if you ask them that under the circumstances they will extend the sale an extra day or so.

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 3:23 PM

I guess I got pretty lucky. Finished buying some stuff late Friday night (actually, around 30 minutes after midnight). After all my downloads were done, I couldn't get to any sites after that but my mail would run. Hey, martian, dontcha like the Triggerfish and the Lion fish? Or do you already have them?

sandoppe ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 3:27 PM

Ah well, gives us a chance to browse the DAZ staff bios! That still works! Has anyone noticed that Dan Farr looks exactly like Michael 1!! :)

I'm waiting for them to pop up in the Platinum Club.

Yeah, I thought about that, martian (hehe). Not that I keep tabs very carefully, but I haven't seen much move from the loft to the PC. @ about $6 each, it seems like a good buy.

Mesh_Magick ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 4:58 PM

cna't get to daz password error! damn worms i hate em and the asshole who made them!

Penguinisto ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 5:00 PM

The SQL bug only affect Microsoft SQL 2000 servers, not MySQL boxes. The problem may have more to do with DAZ' colocation host being choked than anything else. Check with Steve Kondris or Reba Vest at DAZ tomorrow morning about the sale... /P

PheonixRising ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 5:15 PM

:) I'm sure the site will be up when they get in tomorrow. Some fish went into the Platinum CLub to cross promote the Mermaid and the Aquatica Reef. The remaining sea items will not be going there.

I doubt the worm affected Daz because during the DDOS attack, Daz remained up.. I was downloading new purchases from there all night. And all the things that the worm may have crippled are pretty much up and running since yesterday afternoon. See attached link to CNN for details.

TCSP ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 6:45 PM

if you have a firewall, use it. my firewall has goten an unbeleivable amount of pings and using ip-tracker, they are from around the world. even if you have sql server 2000 patched, you will still continue to receive ping-attacks from as many sources to as many ports. Once the worm gets control on the target computer it loads WS2_32.DLL and starts to continually send itself to port 1434/udp of a randomly selected IP targets in an infinite loop. The IP of a victim is constructed using 'GetTickCount' API and is purely random. This propagation strategy consumes a lot of network bandwith because the vast majority of requests go to the Internet. The worm exists only in memory and does not modify any local files.

LadyJaiven ( ) posted Sun, 26 January 2003 at 6:47 PM

Mine too.. you'd be amazed how many people portscan and catch my IP daily.. I get all types of sub7 and backdoor attempts per hour.. yeesh

I get those all the time, too. Lots of them are traced to Korea and quite a few from China and Italy.

I also get quite a lot of some kind of virus or something somewhere from China lately. Looks like deliberate attempts, they all come with very different mails. Hmm, possibly it's the Slammer, because the AV doesn't say anything. And I won't even mention various attempts to break into my comp.

Can this WS2_32.dll be deleted?

L'ultima fòrza è nella morte.

TCSP ( ) posted Tue, 28 January 2003 at 10:48 AM

no.. not quite... its a necissary windows file. The major task of the data transport portion of the Ws2_32.DLL is to serve as a sort of traffic manager between service providers and applications. Consider several different service providers interacting with the same application. Each service provider interacts strictly with the Ws2_32.DLL. the problem here is, the Ws2_32.DLL has no knowledge about how requests to service providers are realized; this is up to the service provider implementation. so when the Ws2_32.DLL passes the transport service provider's socket descriptor on up to the Windows Sockets application, the applications are free to take advantage of socket descriptors that the file system handles, if they so choose. like ping-attacks and such... at least thats my understanding of how its relating here...
