I think the "problem" I had with Bryce when I first started with it (way back last year!) was I was afraid to do anything with the finished product. Therefore I was limited by the software, and it showed. But now I'm looking on it more as a tool to get the basics down with, and the result is that I'm liking my images more. To be honest, I look back on the stuff I did a few months ago and cringe. I was just reading some stuff on Jim Burns, my favourite sci-fi artist. You look at his pictures - the incredible characters and staggeringly realistic faces he paints - and then read that he admits he has "no natural talent" for drawing people. Instead, he gathers together huge stacks of magazines and photos and uses them as references! So it's good enough for Jim Burns, it's good enough for me.
