It's not against TOS, but the last person who started soliciting for donations was jumped on by people who were tired of seeing donation scams across the Internet and took out their frustration on the poster. I don't know if the request was genuine or not, but the post got a bit ugly. We've also had at least one request that was likely fraudulent. (The details contradicted themselves and while it's possible for all the bad things listed to have happened to one person, the odds were about the same as winning the lottery.) You could look into trying to do a fund raiser - see if people would donate meshes with the proceeds going to your friend. I've seen that done before with good results. Cheers!
