Subject: Lifelike eyes for V3

marvlin ( ) posted Wed, 12 February 2003 at 10:23 AM ยท edited Sat, 19 October 2024 at 2:12 PM

In the past if I wanted to add life to my characters eyes, i have simply added a reflect node to the "reflection colour node and set the colour node to 1, I have done this to all the eye components and it works a treat. However, with V3 it doesn't work, does anybody know why, is there a workaround, or can you suggest another method besides post work to get this effect. Marv

V3, to the best of my knowledge, which I admit is slight, has multipart eyes. I have added bump to the iris and work with specular settings in P5. I'm not sure what to do in P4, seems to me her eyes already look fairly realistic, but there are some tricks to make them look wetter, just not sure how to do that in P4 or PP. In general you lessen the darkness of the ambient-- I think-- from black to grey. Emily

Thanks Emily, I'll try that, although I think I've cracked it, I was doing test renders wothout success then it occurred to me that because, I was using a background image with no real props in the enviroment raytracing had nothing to reflect so I postitioned a few spheres in front of her eyes (behind the camera) with a suitably positioned spotlight and voila, not earth shattering but enough to get the effect I was after. A quick bit of photoshop levels adjustment for the skin tone and I got the attached image. I tried raytracing the lips as well, which look fair but they are reflecting into each other which creates an overload of pink where the mouth joins, Bugga! gonna try your suggestion now and see how we go. Thanks again :o) Marvlin
