Subject: Trans Maps for P5?

Eagle_hawke ( ) posted Mon, 17 February 2003 at 10:58 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 3:50 AM

I just upgraded from Poser 4 to Poser 5, all and all I love the new program But I can't seem to figure out how to import my old trans maps into Poser 5. I figured out the Texture Maps with the help manuals but I can't seem to find any info on importing transmaps. Any help would be apreciated.

What exacty do you mean by importing? Generally all MAT files work with P5 aside from having to manually connect bump map nodes. But if you're trying to just add in a transmap, in the material room, click on the transparency shader, and choose 2d textures/image map, and choose your transparency. Then set trans max/min, and you're good to go.

That did it thank you much! :-)

You're welcome :)

This touches on something I've been wondering... Are you saying P5 does not correctly read the bump settings in p4/PP MAT files?

GraphicFoxx ( ) posted Tue, 18 February 2003 at 10:34 AM

Not necessarily. Most of them work just fine. But a lot of times the bump map is loaded, but not connected to the bump node. So you have to go into the material room and connect it. However, what ever bump strength setting was used is there. Just a minor annoyance really.

When trying to make a product that includes bump maps for use in both P4/PP and P5, is there any way to set the MAT files up to ensure hassle-free functionality with P5? Or, is it just something customers should be warned about?

I haven't noticed any reasoning as to why or why-not the bumps are connected. Most all I have seen, the head bump map is connected, while the body isn't. About the only sure-fire way to do it is to make P5 MT5's. But basically just let your customers know that P5 users will have to connect the bump map.

Thanks, GraphicFoxx. I'll look into the P5 MT5s.
