i agree with pauljs get anim8or (www.anim8or.com) and wings3d (www.wings3d.com)! Just for the text anim8or is the way to go, just type it change it to whatever font/size/style u want, extrude it and then save as a .3ds or whatever :) Takes me all of 30 secs :)
