I'm running a fresh install of Bryce 3D straight off the cd. And I just realized I don't have a copy of the updater to 3.1, nor can I get it from Corel's site or the old Metacreations site. If this is a known issue with 3 that was fixed in the updater, does anyone know a location I could grab it from? Thanks, - taerin
Maybe Brycetech has the update? I don't know for sure. I have heard that the patch is not very easy to find. Are the mountains parented to each other? maybe that's the problem. If not then I suggest you make 2 scenes with one mountain. Then change one of them and then merge the scenes again.

Dan - how would flattening the terrain make any difference? The reason I'm duplicating it is to retain the dimensions and location; I'm just changing the heightmap. Ray - I checked Brycetech, but no luck. I didn't find any downloads there at all, just tutorials, galleries and links. :-( I checked, and both terrains have a parent of none. And yeah, I've been creating one, sticking it in the user library, then creating the other. That way I can bring them both into a single scene. It's a pain though, and I wish I could figure out what's going on. Example of what I'm doing - I've got a heightmap of a window with fiddly stuff inside and an arched top. To make a piece of glass to fill the empty spots, I'm duplicating the original and using an almost-identical heightmap which has a solidly filled arch. (Can't use a default primitive without booleaning it to the right shape, sadly.) I want these two terrains in the same place and with about the same dimensions. However, when I duplicate the first 'frame' terrain and rename it 'glass', then enter the editor and load a new heightmap, both the 'frame' and 'glass' terrains change to the new one. The only terrain I want to change is 'glass'. Make sense? Thanks, - taerin

I gotcha and I'm not sure what's going on either been a long time since I used B3. But the 3.1 patches are at the bottom of the link above. This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Hey guys -
I'm running into a strange problem with terrains. Frequently, if I need two objects in the same place with similar characteristics, I'll create one, duplicate it, rename the duplicate and make whatever edits are required. Since this usually means changing the bitmap I'm using as a heightmap, this works very well. The item is already placed and sized and clipped.
The problem I'm currently running into is that when I apply a new heightmap to the duplicate, it updates the original as well. I can't find anything in the attributes of either object that would indicate they're somehow linked, so I have no clue how this is happening.
These terrains are not grouped, they do not have the same name, nor are they both accidentally selected when I'm editing only one of them. I'm running a fresh install of Bryce 3D straight off the cd without any updates, haven't gotten 'round to applying them yet.
Any troubleshooting ideas? This isn't a known issue, is it?
Thanks,
