You can make a change in what happens, but what needs to happen is that whoever sees the petition has to get rid of their "oh I'm just one signature, I won't was my time signing it because it won't speed up things" mentality or else who knows, there might be dozens or more signatures missing and that will be that. I believe that if CL saw that petition with about 1000 sigs, they might think twice about not doing something to walk designer.
