the cloth room can be a little daunting... i havent come across any tutorials yet. first, is the ribbon a single object or two? if its two, to answer your question, yes i beleive you do need to create a new sim on the second ribbon... though you might consider making both ribbons as one mesh if you have some kind of 3d program. (but thats compleatly optional) to stop things from falling, you need to contrain a few vertices in place OR make sure your ribbon is parented (if your using some kind of bone structure or a figure) and set your 'collide against'. this will typically lead to your clothed item sliding off or something so thats why you wana set a few contrained verts to hold it it place. all collisions are pretty touch and go as far as i can tell. sometimes they work, sometimes not. ive noticed though in situations where youve got a flowing type of cloth scenario, not a conforming article of clothing, it works very badly and you endup with cloth slicing through itself and whatever props/figures you have around. thats just been my experience so far anyways... and thats only been on the animation side of things. in a drape situation, where your just dealing with a single frame and using draping your cloth, ive found my colisions works perfect and conform nicely with a good mesh and some colision tweaking. !BUT! as soon as any dynamic calculations take place on an animated sequence, its like the thing takes a back seat and couldnt colide with a brick wall if it wanted to. but im still fudling through it all... hope this helps. ~;)
