Subject: How to make textures for clothes that don't smear or stretch out of shape.

Does anyone know how to make textures for clothes that don't smear or stretch out of shape? Or are there any good tutorials on how to do this? If I scan in a jewel and put it onto a top it seems to me that it totally loses it's shape. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey Lululee :) What size is the template you are useing ? Sometimes its a matter of bad UV mapping by the original OBJ maker and remaping it helps. Other times its to small of a UV map . Some times its just the mesh it self that has too big gaps in places. That will cause all kinds of streaching across the gaps.

The template size I am using is 2000 by 2000. I am painting in either Deep Paint 3d or Photoshop. How would I remap in UV mapper? If I remap will anyone else be able to use the texture without using different uv templates. If this isn't clear it's becasue I'nm not too sure about how to do this.

2000 x 2000 is plenty big enough. And no if you shared it you would have to include a remaped version of the Clothing OBJ . What part of the mesh are you geting the streching at ? the seams ?

Occasionally if the stretching isn't too bad and you want to avoid having to change the UV templates you can reverse the stretching in your texture. In other words, you can pre-shrink that portion of the texture so that when it stretches it will approximate the correct proportions. It doesn't like that will do you much good here since the stretching is pretty severe and the jewel texture is fairly detailed.

Thank you so much for all of your info.

If you scale your pasted jewel slightly I think you will find that they retain their shape when applied to the figure.

thanks so much Phil. I am trying to learn how to work with these jewels on your mesh becasuse I know this mesh is truly awesome. I wanted to enter some textures in your contest but I couldn't hit the quality I wanted. This is a beautiful mesh to work with. The quality is very fine.

What Phil said. Same with the base textures. If you have a flood fill you want to use as a base, try creating a section beyond the template, flood filling it and then compressing it, like Phill shows above, horizontally. The example above shows it a bit. That way when the outfit is stretched, the texture stretches with it to normal but doesn't necessarily look odd not stretched. It's how real clothing reacts to movement anyway.
