Writing is not just about expressing ourselves, but exploring what we are not, to try on different viewpoints and see what happens. A fascinating process, I think. My body belongs to me and me alone and always will be so. I may have had more or fewer choices in my life, but it limits my perspective. What is true for me, what is true for you, may not be true for her of the poem. That's just the way it is. Hateful? Not to me. Sad. Depressing. Lacking the ability to see alternatives.
