Eryk more than likely your problem can be solved with one click in the terain editor if you are using bryce 5 click the arrow pointing down in the upper right hand corner of the editing window and select solid. If you are using 4 then the arrow will be to the lower left of that window, do the same thing. I am not totaly sure if this is what you are looking for but its something that may help.
