After scanning with an anti-virus program, if you have something like WinZip, try to open it in WinZip rather than execute it. Sometimes these are just self extracting zip files which people generate out of consideration for those who don't have zip software. My personal opinion is that it's a little misguided considering the virus concerns. Anyway, the point is that if it's one of those, you might be able to simply view it as an archive and extract the items manually instead of having to execute the file. Worth a try anyway.
