As for size - the number is the bandsize (ribcage just under the breasts) the letter corresponds to the number difference bewteen the band size and the actual bust measurement. DD has 6 inches difference, and A has an inch or less. The most common bra size in the us is 38C. Certain styles (especially for larger women) compress things to make them smaller. (thank god!) And of course the infamous Wonderbra to give a little more oomph to smaller ladies (and some gents)
