  1. Some are pure Bryce but many use other programs for models and 2D image editors once the render is done to add postwork or touchups. 2. Compatable in what way? Bryce can import many formats from other programs such as Lightwave, 3DSMax (.3ds files not .max files), etc. Bryce cannot export anything but terrains lattices, rock and previously imported meshes. 3. Most people use Poser to pose models then import them into Bryce. Other programs that can do characters and pose them can be used too, common factor with almost all of them is that it can't be reposed once in Bryce. Though Bryce isn't a modeller per se, once you get more proficient in it you can model almost anything in Bryce but takes a bit of work and planning sometimes. Creatures can be modelled with metaballs if you have Bryce 5. BTW welcome to your new addiction. :) And as soon as you can (here goes another promotion :) ) go to amazon.com and get Real World Bryce 4 which has become the Bryce bible. It's just as useful for Bryce 5 but won't cover the Tree lab or metaballs. www.brycetech.com has a good tutorial on the tree lab.
