Subject: How can I improve my poser hair?

My Poser hair is better than the default hair; but I have seen many pic's with a "Transparent" or "Feathered" look. They don't have the body of the model over powering the texture map each hair looks finely done. Who is this done? The few tutorials I have found here have led me to dead links. Thanks for your help.
