Hi, finally I finished one of my models - the myst pavilion. I played the game "Myst - Exile" a lot and was inspired to do something similar. This is my first "real" item in the marketplace. Comments and critics are welcome! Take care, Jimi

Eelie, you have to play Exile - it's sooo great and the worlds are beautiful. Very inspiring! Thank you all for your comments - it really makes me happy that you like it. :-) Greets, Jimi

Looks great, like the look of the building. I remember when Myst came out squeaks walker. There were a bunch of the "do some stuff, see a video" games. Was one of those games with Tia Carrere from Relic Hunter. Journeyman project was one and then they had one where you pilot a drone through a ship. Had to dodge the security bot because your drone had no weapons. Had to sample dna to open doors, end up with a lot of useless roach dna. Folks were saying in those days (80's I think) there was going to be this combination of Hollywood and games companies.

This is a beautiful model Jimi and as said before it is so delicate. Would make a lovely romantic setting. I've got Exile but I'm only at the beginning. The graphics are absolutely stunning and it is a joy to play. If anyone is thinking about getting it, stop thinking and go get it. Catlin

Great work Jimi.

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Thu, 17 April 2003 at 7:21 PM

I like it a lot! The last render of it, the one with the GI-type lighting, is awesome! Seems like a great place to take a lover... My two cents : Myst sucked. Pre-rendered graphics don't make a game good. Games without explosions or blood shouldn't even be called video games. Morrowind is much cooler, the graphics are UNBELIEVABLE, and it's realtime 3D! Okay,I'm done sounding like an idiot now! (retreats into Shadow)

Myst was never really an action game, it was one of those puzzle type deals... Graphics shmafics! What really makes a game good is it's playability. Some of the ol' classics were cheezy as hell, but if they were fun to play with friends and involved a bit of skill - how it looked didn't matter. Asteroids, Combat (anyone remember Tank Pong?), Mig Alley Ace, Space War, Civ, Scorched Earth, etc., they were good in their day and I'd play them over again if anyone had the ol' computers to run them. I guess people expect eye candy all the time now... I must be getting old (and I'm not even 30 yet.) Anyhow, when it comes to modern multiplayer first person shooters - nothing's cooler than Battlefield 1942 (when its played over a cable modem with a good connection on a 'puter that's up to par.) You actually need to work as a team with people, and there's no homing weapons - but some really nice powerful ranged artillery and aircraft that take a bit of skill to make useful. Now if only some people would scout better...

pauljs75: All you need is an emulator. Then you can play all of the games you mentioned. Just make a search for Commodore/Amiga/Atari/Spectrum Emulator. The attached link is just one of them. :)

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Thu, 17 April 2003 at 8:23 PM

When I played Myst it was a blast, nice places to walk through. Can take as much time to sightsee without having to dodge pink bull demons. Did not like some of the puzzles. Prefer puzzles to be kinda related to what you are doing. At least Myst was not a Mario wannabe like Half Life. Was expecting Gordon Freeman to say "Itsa me, Gordie". Come on how many things do you have to jump on? Toxic waste, stone blocks and when you get to the alien world, floating alien platforms and aliens. Morrowind is cool, best bird attack sim around. Never played a game before where rats and crabs can help you raise stats in armor and dodging. If you have the time, you can stand there and have them attack you and your char can block. Just stand there and block. Just don't pick diseased creatures to train with. Have to try battefield 1942 multiplayer. Hope its better than counterstrike.

bikermouse ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 3:09 AM

I'm with SDL inthat Myst's only appeal to me was that it was rendered really well. To my way of thinking Half-Life was great although too short - Counter strike was better but still too short and I didn't like the way either of them ended. Agreed too much jumping though. I'm looking forward to unreal ... someday.

Oh, Batllefield1942 is awsome - the multiplay game really makes fun. I play nearly every day. Unreal2 looks fine, but it's only a singler player game which was baring to me. Fighting against bots is no fun. I prefer real opponents, because they never act like you except. ;) Myst really took me in another world with it's graphics - the finest renderings I ever saw in a game. Ok - pre-rendered, but that's ok. I like the atmosphere, the story and the puzzles. shadowdragonlord: the GI-type rendering in the lower right was made with "true ambient" settings in Bryce. Took 26 hours on my P4 2,5 Ghz computer. Back to real live for shameless advertising: do you think that my pavilion is too expensive? There's only one buyer so far, and I wonder why. ;-) Greets, Jimi

Catlin: When you get to our age bits of you start to play up. Your eyes need things to make them look fashionable, and your ears need amplifiers, as for teeth - they need bits of plastic reinforcement. Time passes, and you need bits of wood to prop yourself up with (or metal trolleys to roll around on) and other peoples' hair to warm the top of your head. Thankfully, most of the rest of me works just fine, so there! :>

With all the talk of MYST III I had to go back install it and play it. It only took me a few hours to complete. :) That's one of the drawbacks to this type of game butthis time I think I paid more attention to the environment. The renders are beautiful. Anyone have any idea what they used to create and render their scenes?

bikermouse ( ) posted Mon, 21 April 2003 at 11:06 PM

Aldaron, Will Myst play on XP? I went back to play Gabriel_KnightI from another company and it wouldn't save even with the patch. It would be nice to go back and look at Myst again from a Bryce point of view - the last time I played it, I hadn't even gotten Bryce3d yet and the graphics seemed too far above anything I would ever do - now I'm not so sure of that, and they are still probably too far above me as yet but I'm a heck of a lot closer now to being able to do something like that than I was then. Perhaps I'll have to dig out Myst too and take a gander . . . it's been a long time since I even looked at it. Another one was a sleeper callled "Lost in Time". I'll have to look at that too. - TJ

Bryster are you sure about that. I seem to remember some interviews on one of the Myst series but can't find one for Myst III. bikermouse, I don't have WinXP only W2K and it works after using the patch even though it's not recommended. All I can say is give it a try and try Win98 emulation if needed.
