ERC = Enhanced Remote Control. It's a way of 'slaving' several channels to a 'master'. And a few other handy techniques. The problem is, in poser 4 it causes crosstalk, which is what happens when 2 figures with the same ERC channels 'lock' into one another's settings. I'd avoid it, if I were you. Also, if you now nothing about it, it can take a while to learn. This whole business with morph tracking is a real pain. I usually use the dials and type in everything directly.
